    Beskrivning

The second edition of Neurosurgical Neuropsychology: The Practical Application of Neuropsychology in the Neurosurgical Practice offers an in-depth review of the critical role neuropsychology plays in neurosurgical settings. This comprehensive resource covers essential preoperative techniques, including advanced functional neuroimaging methods such as fMRI and connectivity-based imaging, alongside traditional approaches like neurocognitive testing and the Wada procedure. This book highlights the significant contributions of neuropsychologists to the neurosurgical team, emphasizing their value in managing diverse patient populations, from candidates for Deep Brain Stimulation to those undergoing adult and pediatric epilepsy surgeries and neuro-oncology interventions. New chapters in this edition address contemporary topics such as the cognitive impact of epilepsy and epilepsy surgery, concussion, neuroplasticity, and the future role of artificial intelligence in neurosurgery. By updating existing content and incorporating fresh insights, this book serves as an essential guide for neurosurgeons, neuropsychologists, neuro-oncologists, epileptologists, and general neurologists who wish to enhance their understanding of neuropsychology's application in both preoperative and postoperative care.

    • Includes new chapters on functional connectivity imaging, the cognitive impact of epilepsy and epilepsy surgery, and the role of concussion in neuropsychology
    • Highlights the essential role of neuropsychologists in the surgical management of diverse patient populations
    • Explains preoperative and postoperative assessment methods to evaluate cognitive function and functional status following neurosurgical interventions
    • Provides comprehensive coverage of neuropsychological techniques relevant to neurosurgery, including functional neuroimaging and neurocognitive testing
    • Integrates case studies and practical applications to illustrate the real-world impact of neuropsychology in neurosurgical practice

    Mer om författaren

Dr. Caleb Pearson is an associate professor in the departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He is also the director of the Human Brain Mapping Program at the University of Kansas Health System and the chief of Epilepsy Neuropsychology. His work primarily includes pre-surgical risk stratification for patients suffering from epilepsy and brain tumors, as well as the use of functional MRI and tractography in neurosurgery. Dr. Ecklund-Johnson is a clinical neuropsychologist in the neuropsychology department at the University of Kansas Hospital and Associate Clinical Professor in the KUMC departments of Neurology and Psychiatry. He is board certified in clinical neuropsychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology and his clinical and research work has focused on cognitive assessment of surgical and non-surgical patients with known or suspected neurological problems including Parkinson's disease, other movement disorders, brain tumors, memory disorders, and traumatic brain injury, among other conditions.Dr. Gale is a Professor at Brigham Young University. His research interests are largely centered in the field of neuropsychology, which is the study of brain-behavior relationships. He utilizes clinical and research techniques, including neurocognitive assessment and neuroimaging, as well as neuroepidemiological techniques, to investigate neurocognitive outcomes in various neurologic disorders including traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, and dementia. More recently, He has become increasingly interested in the potential negative effects of (latent) infectious disease on neurocognitive functions and psychiatric illness.
