Beskrivning
This important new handbook provides an expansive and global account of the intersections between religion and racism.Racism driven by religion is intensifying, threatening the project of human flourishing and development, both for the victims and the perpetrators. However, there are also examples of religious resources being mobilised to counter discrimination. Adopting an interdisciplinary, multi-sited, and gendered approach, this handbook uncovers how the religion-racism nexus plays out across a wide range of contexts, regions, and faith traditions. The book provides rich historical, theological, phenomenological, sociological, psychological insights alongside cross-cutting thematic exploration, such as gender, disability, climate change, pandemics, and sport. With important insights into Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and Hinduism, the book also highlights the experiences of marginalised traditions, such as the Baha’i Faith, and Indigenous Religions. The book also includes reflections and recommendations by activists who are involved in the religious responses to racism in different parts of the world.Ambitious in scope and coverage, the Routledge Handbook of Religion and Racism will be an important read for researchers, students, and activists across the fields of Religious Studies, Political Science, Gender Studies, Education, and Area Studies.
