Beskrivning
This book examines potential resonances between the works of Carl Jung and Wilfred Bion, in the context of mutual formative influences, congruent interests and their respective psychoanalytic writings. It has long been acknowledged that, in 1935, Bion at the outset of his psychoanalytic career attended the Tavistock Lectures given by Jung at The Institute of Medical Psychology. This, along with new evidence of annotations made by Bion in a copy of Jung's Memories, Dreams, Reflections, is sparking interest in the exploration and study of conceptual comparisons between the work and ideas of these two key psychoanalytic thinkers. This book questions the extent to which they may have carved out divergent but overlapping spheres within their conceptualisations and discusses possible factors which may have been at play in any such areas of overlap. This new book will be of interest to practitioners, scholars and students alike, within the fields of analytical psychology and psychoanalysis and to all who have an interest in the ideas of Carl Jung and Wilfred Bion.

“This collection of specialists’ papers probes how differently and remarkably similarly Bion and Jung understood the infinite of the human mind, and mind-body. Not least because the curiosity within each chapter extends the parameters of our inevitably finite human understanding, this seminal book is an asset to scholars and students alike.”Andrew Briggs, PhD, child and adolescent psychotherapist, clinical associate, The British Psychoanalytical Society“This book is an appreciation of Bion’s and Jung’s uniqueness, and of the ways in which their conjoint consideration can work creatively between dialogue and dispute. From a Jung/Bion nucleus, this book is an important gathering of thought that grows in relevance in a multitude of directions. Many voices, and many surprises for psychotherapists and for the mindful reader."Ana Martinez Acobi, psychoanalytic psychotherapist, training therapist and scholar-clinician, author of The Emergent Container in Psychoanalysis“This book is the product of an extraordinary collective effort, resulting in a remarkable reflection on deep psychoanalytic thought and ongoing questions about human experience. What emerges is genuine dialogue: an exploration that opens new pathways for clinical thinking and invites readers into a vibrant, evolving conversation. It is a book that will open new paths for future generations, encouraging them to approach psychoanalysis with depth, creativity, and critical openness.”Rodrigo Sanchez, psychoanalyst, course lead for Psychodynamic Psychotherapies at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust
