The collection also features original vignettes by bestselling and award-winning American and Canadian authors Marsha Forchuk Skrypuch, Eva Stachniak, Amanda McCrina, Erin Litteken, Marina Scott, Norman Ravvin, and Gabriele Goldstone, along with a foreword by Cecilia Woloch and an afterword by Steven Seegel containing unpublished poetry. Combining critical scholarship with creative voices, the book offers a wide-ranging account of the presence, influence, and representation of Central and Eastern Europe in North American cultural life.

Mateusz Świetlicki is Associate Professor at the University of Wrocław. He is the author of Next-Generation Memory and Ukrainian Canadian Children’s Historical Fiction: The Seeds of Memory (2023), which won the 2025 International Research Society for Children’s Literature Book Award.Dagmara Drewniak is Full Professor at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and President of the Polish Association for Canadian Studies. Her books include Forgetful Recollections, The Self and the World, and Pierre Savard Award-winning The Figure of Home.Sylwia Kamińska-Maciąg is Assistant Professor at the University of Wrocław and a member of the Centre for Research on Children’s and Young Adult Literature. Her current project examines postmemory and displacement in children’s historical fiction.Izabella Kimak is Assistant Professor at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin. She researches contemporary US literature, race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, Polish American writing, and place-making.
