Recensioner i media
"Bonnie Lucero examines the messy history of power, production, government regulation, and consumption in the beef industry during Cuba's struggle for national sovereignty. The result is a deeply researched and engaging window into the multiple forces that shape the Cuban nation-state. A must read."—Enrique C. Ochoa, author of México Between Feast and Famine: Food, Corporate Power, and Inequality "In this remarkable book, Bonnie Lucero shows us that the dream of eating beef was an obsession in Cuban society long before the 1959 Revolution. Her rigorous research into the conflicts—mainly due to shortages—surrounding beef, the main source of animal protein, sets a high bar for a new social history of food in Cuba, moving beyond the dichotomies typical of a historiography still marked by Cold War world views."—Reinaldo Funes Monzote, author of From Rainforest to Cane Field in Cuba: An Environmental History since 1492
