New Lukács

Though notoriously challenging, Georg Lukács's History and Class Consciousness is nonetheless an essential work in the canon of Marxist philosophy. Andrew Feenberg unwraps and elucidates the central Lukácsian concepts of reification, totality, and praxis. He makes the text accessible to a new generation of readers, teasing out neglected facets of the work in the light of the latest scholarship.Attacked by orthodox Marxists on its first publication in 1923, History and Class Consciousness was mostly forgotten for decades. But in the 1960s the student movement was drawn to its focus on the power of consciousness to change reality. Lukács's classic continues to inspire scholars and radicals to this day.
