    Beskrivning

Rotating electrical machines are embedded in nearly every sector of modern industry; they are widely used in industrial settings, as motors in transportation applications - including electric vehicles - and in power generation, where they are a key component of wind turbines.Technical advances are transforming what these machines can achieve. New developments in rotating electrical machinery have arisen from novel or improved materials, including new insulation materials, as well as advances in electrical steels and high-performance permanent magnets, and more rapid mass production techniques. These improvements deliver benefits such as cheaper and faster manufacturing and enhanced performance from the final products. At the same time, condition monitoring and maintenance techniques are also changing rapidly through increased application and further research and development, and are becoming essential to ensuring reliability, availability and cost-effectiveness for electrical machine systems, from small industrial drives to multi-megawatt generators.Condition Monitoring of Rotating Electrical Machines has established itself as a definitive reference for researchers and engineers in the energy, transport, process engineering and manufacturing industries and in related academic research. Coverage includes fundamental principles of condition monitoring, plus in-depth discussion of reliability, signal processing, online temperature, chemical and vibration monitoring, current, flux and power monitoring, partial discharge detection, drive monitoring, off-line monitoring, condition-based maintenance, use of AI and machine learning, and safety and training. This 4th Edition has been expanded, revised and updated throughout, and features new chapters, addressing novel machine designs, new materials, clean energy and transport, the use of AI, and strategies for reliability, availability and maintenance.

    Mer om författaren

Peter Tavner is an emeritus professor at Durham University, UK. He has held a number of senior research and technical positions in the electrical supply and manufacturing industries, including two of the UK's large electrical machine manufacturers. He was a professor of new and renewable energy at Durham University for eight years, president of the European Academy of Wind Energy from 2010 to 2012, and winner of the Institution Premium of the IEE in 1988.Christopher Crabtree is an honorary professor of the Department of Engineering at Durham University, UK. He was previously a professor of wind energy systems at Durham University. Christopher's research focuses on operation and maintenance aspects of wind energy systems and electrical machines with the aim of improving reliability, raising availability and reducing the cost of energy from wind. His primary research interests have been in the development of condition monitoring techniques and power conversion system reliability. He also has interests in the movement of church bell towers during full-circle change ringing.Behzad Kazemtabrizi is an associate professor at Durham University, UK. His research focuses on electrical power systems optimisation, reliability assessment and the integration of renewable energy. He has contributed to computational tools for hybrid AC/DC grids and HVDC transmission for the robustness and efficiency of transmission networks. He has also been incorporating machine learning and data-driven methods into power system studies. He has served as director of education in the Department of Engineering since 2023.Li Ran is a professor at Warwick University, UK, and Chongqing University, China. After his PhD, he participated in the commissioning of the Gezhouba-Shanghai HVDC System. Between 1992 and 1999, he was a postdoctoral research fellow with the Universities of Aberdeen, Nottingham and Heriot-Watt. He became a chair at Durham University in 2010 and joined the University of Warwick in 2012. He was a deputy director for the State Key Laboratory in Power Transmission Equipment and System Security, China.
