Then, Now, Always

In 2015, 40 Indigenous leaders gathered in Sydney and told Australia’s Prime Minister that they wanted a referendum. In Melbourne, 1000 people stopped an Australia Day parade, reminding the nation that we commemorate a day of invasion for many. In Adelaide, an Indigenous man was appointed Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and had treaty on his mind. This book tells the path of the following ten years, when hearts filled with hope and disappointment by turns, and Indigenous peoples remained defiant in calling for truth and treaty. Through the voices of those from diverse perspectives, including Jill Gallagher, Megan Davis, Marcia Langton, Lidia Thorpe, Jacinta Price and Warren Mundine, it examines the paths to treaty, and what remains ahead. Leaders of treaty in Victoria, tellers of truth in Queensland and elected voices in South Australia have led our nation forward. This land always was. It always will be. The story of treaty is just beginning.
