    Beskrivning

This thirteenth volume of the BCI State-of-the-Art series presents a comprehensive overview of the most innovative and impactful developments in brain-computer interface (BCI) research, as highlighted by the BCI Award 2024. The volume features detailed descriptions of the top 12 nominated projects, selected by an international jury of experts from hundreds of submissions, and provides in-depth coverage of the top 3 winning entries. These projects span a wide range of applications, including neurorehabilitation, communication, cognitive assessment, neuromodulation, and artificial intelligence integration, and demonstrate how cutting-edge BCI technologies are being translated into clinical, educational, and real-world environments. Each chapter is written by the project’s authors and includes technical insights, experimental results, and future perspectives. Together, these contributions provide a unique snapshot of the current state and future direction of BCI research and development. This book serves as an essential resource for researchers, clinicians, engineers, and students in the fields of neuroscience, neuroengineering, biomedical technology, and human-computer interaction, as well as for professionals seeking to understand the evolving landscape of brain-computer interfaces.

    Mer om författaren

Christoph Guger studied electrical and biomedical engineering at the University of Technology Graz in Austria and Johns Hopkins University in the USA and received his PhD in 1999. In 1999 he started the company g.tec which has now branches in Austria, Spain, the USA, Canada, Japan and Hong Kong. g.tec produces high-quality neurotechnology and real-time brain computer interfaces for the research, medical and consumer market. The company is active in many international research projects about brain-computer interfacing, neuromodulation, stroke rehabilitation, assessment and communication with patients with disorders of consciousness and high-gamma mapping in epilepsy and tumor patients. Brendan Allison is a brain-computer interface scientist. He has been in the field over 25 years, with experience in academia, industry, and consulting. He has a Google Scholar h-index of 47, all of them BCI-related. Brendan is a Founding Board Member of the BCI Society, Founding Editor of the BCI Journal, and presents work and organizes workshops at several major conferences per year. Fabien Lotte is a French computer scientist specializing in Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI), human-computer interaction, pattern recognition, and brain signal processing. He earned his M.Sc., M.Eng., and PhD from INSA Rennes (2005, 2008), receiving two national awards for his PhD thesis. After a research fellowship in Singapore (2009–2010), he joined Inria Bordeaux Sud-Ouest, where he became a tenured Research Scientist (2011–2019) and later Research Director (since 2019). He obtained his Habilitation (HDR) in 2016 and held visiting positions at RIKEN Brain Science Institute in Japan and Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. He serves on the editorial boards of Brain-Computer Interfaces and Journal of Neural Engineering, and co-founded Frontiers in Neuroergonomics: Neurotechnologies and System Neuroergonomics. He co-edited several major BCI books. Milena Korostenskaja is a highly qualified neuroscientist with an M.Sc. in Neurobiology, two PhDs (Psychology and Biomedical Sciences), and postdoctoral training in neurotechnologies (EEG, MEG, ECoG). She has published over 50 scientific papers, including research focused on reducing post-surgical morbidity in brain surgery patients. She founded Neurocareers at The Institute of Neuroapproaches to help individuals build successful careers in neuroscience and neurotechnology. Through her “Neurocareers: Doing the Impossible!” podcast and personalized one-on-one coaching, she provides guidance on career planning, job search strategies, resume and cover letter development, interview preparation, networking, and ongoing professional support.
