This book draws on the research findings of a study examining efforts to advance gender equality in India's higher education sector. The research challenges the common assumption that gender equality is achieved once access reaches parity. Instead, it reveals how neoliberal equality policies and practices intersect with patriarchal caste structures and longstanding injustices embedded within higher education.Through investigation of gender equality policy implementation, access, campus climate, retention, employment and employability narratives, and inclusion of gender in curricula across five states and 10 institutions in India, the authors present in-depth insights into the multiple marginalities which exist in the socially-differentiated Indian context and impact achievement of gender equality goals. The book will be of interest to academics and researchers in gender and higher education, as well as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion practitioners and policymakers.
