Acarbose for the Treatment of Diabetes Mellitus

New principles for the treatment of diabetes are described in this volume. Experts present experimental and clinical data on treatment with acarbose, an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor that delays absorption of fast carbohydrates. Toxicologic, pharmacologic and metabolic effects of acarbose are discussed.
