Thestandardclinicalparametersareprogressivelybene?ttingfrom moreaccuratequantitativemeasurementsthankstoasimultaneoususeof- phisticateddataacquisitiontechniquessuchasmultichannelECGandMEG, dynamicUS,doppler,X-Ray,CT,helicalCT,MRI,fMRI,SPECT,PET...data andadvancedphysicalandmathematicaltools. Itisbecomingpossibleto- cientlycombineprioranatomicalandfunctionalknowledgewithadvanced3D spatio-temporaldigitaldata. Thechallengenowisclearlytocorrelatethemicro structureandfunctionoftheorganfromthecellularlevelwithitsmacroscopic functionalbehavior. TheFIMH2001internationalworkshopaimedtopromotecollaborationb- weenscientistsinsignalandimageprocessing,appliedmathematicsandphysics, biomedicalengineeringandcomputerscience,andexpertsincardiology,rad- logy,biology,andphysiology.
