Victor von Plessen and Friedrich Dalsheim

The volume situates the work of both artists within the interwoven contexts of contemporary history and art history, ethnographic cinema and colonialism. Particular attention is paid to the films as living archives, now being rediscovered by Indigenous communities as a shared cultural heritage. Dalsheim’s story also brings to light the fate under National Socialism of a Jewish artist who was forgotten and marginalised. With two literary contributions by Laksmi Pamuntjak and Ni Made Purnama Sari.
