Environmental Performance Reviews: Mongolia

An Environmental Performance Review is an assessment of progress made in reconciling its environmental and economic targets and in meeting its international environmental commitments. The present publication contains the second review of Mongolia. It takes stock of the progress made in environmental governance and management since 2017 and provides recommendations for further implementation. Additionally, the review examines developments related to Mongolia’s achievement of relevant targets under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The review covers legal and policy frameworks as well as compliance assurance mechanisms. It focuses on greening the economy, addressing climate change issues and analysing the country’s participation in international agreements. It also assesses Mongolia’s efforts to integrate environmental considerations into its policies in the education, forestry, risk management and health sectors. Furthermore, the EPR addresses issues of particular importance to Mongolia, including air protection, water management, waste and chemicals management, land management and biodiversity and protected areas.
