Arie W. Zwiep versammelt textkritische, exegetische und biblisch-theologische Studien zur Apostelgeschichte. Arie W. Zwiep untersucht die Perikopen der Auferweckung der Tochter von Jairus und der Heilung der blutflüssigen Frau (Markus 5:21-43; Matt 9: 18-26; Lukas 8: 40- 56) aus verschiedenen (manchmal widersprüchlichen) methodologischen Gesichtspunkten, um die Notwendigkeit und Fruchtbarkeit eines multi-perspektivischen exegetischen Ansatzes zu demonstrieren.

Der Theologe Gerhard Kittel (1888-1948) hatte als Herausgeber des Theologischen Wörterbuchs zum Neuen Testament und der Rabbinischen Schriften zwei wissenschaftliche Großprojekte ins Leben gerufen, die bis in die Gegenwart genutzt werden. Über seine Beteiligung an der menschenverachtenden Politik der nationalsozialistschen Gewaltherrschaft ist vieles bekannt, aber der Bezug zu seiner Biographie und umgekehrt die biographische Prägung, die zur Unterstützung des Nationalsozialismus und aktiven Judenfeindschaft führten, stellen nach wie vor ein Rätsel dar.Die Briefe Kittels an dem Amsterdamer Exegeten F.W. Grosheide aus den Jahren von 1922 bis 1944, die in diesem Band ebenfalls ediert sind, geben einen vertieften Einblick in die Gedankenwelt des Theologen. International führende Forscherinnen und Forscher zu Kittel werten diese neuen und andere Quellen aus, um ein besseres Verständnis des Zusammenhangs von Biographie, neutestamentlicher Fachwissenschaft und Antisemitismus bei Gerhard Kittel zu gewinnen.

Building on the form-critical assessment of the Lukan ascension story (LK 24:50-53; Acts 1:1-12) as a rapture story, and motivated by the consideration that the 'monotheistic principle' almost inevitably must have led to a reestimate of the meaning and function of rapture in comparison with heathen rapture stories (immortalisation and deification!), the present study seeks to investigate the Lukan ascension story in the light of the first-century Jewish rapture traditions (Enoch, Elijah, Moses, Baruch, Ezra, etc.).The author argues that first-century Judaism provides a more plausible horizon of understanding for the ascension story than the Graeco-Roman rapture tradition, and that Luke develops his 'rapture christology' not as a reinterpretation of the primitive exaltation kerygma (G. Lohfink), but as a response to the eschatological question, i.e. the delay of the parousia, so as to secure the unity of salvation history.

Paul, John, and Apocalyptic Eschatology offers fresh studies by leading New Testament scholars. It considers Paul’s use of tradition, his views on Christian life in the light of mysticism and eschatology. It also discusses the identity formation of the “Johannine community” and the role of “exaltation” in the Fourth Gospel. The focus on apocalyptic eschatology is broadened by studies on the reception of Pauline eschatology, the dating of Revelation, and chiliasm. The collection is complemented by a study on the text of John 3:13 and one on the coinage of the name “Ambrosiaster.”
