The topic of the conference are new production technologies in aerospace industry and the focus is on energy efficient machine tools as well as sustainable process planning. The fuel consumption of a modern combustion engine is one of the most important purchase criteria in contemporary society. Increasing oil prices and exhaust emissions taxes force the automotive industry to continuously improve the vehicle engines. The fuel consumption is closely related to the frictional losses of an engine. New material pairings or constructive modifications of the piston group can reduce such losses. Another innovative concept to lower the frictional forces is the micro-structuring of thermo-mechanically highly stressed surfaces. Within an interdisciplinary research group sponsored by the German Research Foundation, scientists at the Leibniz Universität Hannover and Universität Kassel have been working together to investigate this research topic. This final report presents their findings and offers scope for further discussion.

Das in dritter Auflage erscheinende Buch beschreibt die physikalischen Grundlagen des Spanens nach neusten Erkenntnissen der Forschung. Damit verknüpft werden wichtige Bereiche der dadurch möglichen Anwendungen, wie Hochgeschwindigkeitsspanen, Hochleistungsspanen, Trockenbearbeitung und Hartbearbeitung (Hartdrehen und -fräsen), vorgestellt. Die Möglichkeiten der Modellierung und Simulation von spanenden Prozessen werden komprimiert erläutert. Das Werk vermittelt die Anforderungen, die an moderne Werkzeugmaschinen und Werkzeuge sowie an innovative Planungen spanender Prozesse gestellt werden müssen. Des Weiteren werden wichtige Phänomene der Randzonenphysik feinbearbeiteter Bauteile erklärt.

Die Entwicklung neuer und verbesserter Produkte wird auch zukünftig eine herausragende Rolle spielen, denn Produktentwicklung und -gestaltung tragen zu Wohlstand, Wirtschaftswachstum und zur internationalen Wettbewerbsfähigkeit Deutschlands bei. Dabei steckt hinter jedem neuen oder an Kundenwünsche angepassten Produkt eine Meisterleistung: Technische Herausforderungen und Bedarfe müssen erkannt werden. Es müssen geeignete technische Lösungen gefunden werden, die dann in ein funktionierendes und industriell herstellbares Produkt weiter entwickelt werden. Kein Entwicklungsprojekt ist wie das andere und mit jedem wird Neuland betreten. Diese abwechslungsreichen, sich gleichzeitig stetig wandelnden, aber verantwortungsvollen Aufgaben werden im Maschinenbau und in der Elektrotechnikindustrie vielfach von Konstrukteuren übernommen. Die Ausbildung von Konstrukteuren steht damit vor großen Herausforderungen: Sie muss dem Wandel der Tätigkeitsfelder und Anforderungen mit angepassten Ausbildungskonzepten begegnen, auf den Umgang mit der stetigen Weiterentwicklung vorbereiten und gleichzeitig attraktiv sein für den potenziellen Konstrukteurnachwuchs. Vor diesem Hintergrund rief acatech das Projekt „Konstrukteur 2020“ ins Leben. Ziel war es, Lösungsansätze für eine Verbesserung des Berufsimages zu entwickeln sowie Vorschläge für eine zeitgemäße, zukunftsweisende Hochschulausbildung und Weiterbildung von Konstrukteuren zu erarbeiten, die den Erwartungen der Industrie Rechnung tragen. Die vorliegende acatech STUDIE dokumentiert die Detailergebnisse der empirischen Untersuchungen und Workshops dieses Projekts.

This contributed volume collects the scientific results of the DFG Priority Program 1180 Prediction and Manipulation of the Interactions between Structures and Processes. The research program has been conducted during the years 2005 and 2011, whereas the primary goal was the analysis of the interactions between processes and structures in modern production facilities. This book presents the findings of the 20 interdisciplinary subprojects, focusing on different manufacturing processes such as high performance milling, tool grinding or metal forming. It contains experimental investigations as well as mathematical modeling of production processes and machine interactions. New experimental advancements and novel simulation approaches are also included.
