New essays on the most prominent German dramatist and short-story writer of the early 19th century.For over 150 years, Heinrich von Kleist (1777-1811) has been one of the most widely read and performed German authors. His status in the literary canon is firmly established, but he has always been one of Germany's most contentiously discussed authors. Today's critical debate on his unique prose narratives and dramas is as heated as ever. Many critics regard Kleist as a lone presager of the aesthetics and philosophies of late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century modernism. Yet there can be no question that he responds in his works and letters to the philosophical, aesthetic, and political debates of his time. During the last thirty years, the scholarship on Kleist's work and life has departed from the existentialist wave of the 1950s and early 1960s and opened up new avenues for coming to terms with his unusual talent. The present volume brings together the most important and innovative of these newer scholarly approaches: the essays include critically informed, up-to-date interpretations of Kleist's most-discussed stories and dramas. Other contributions analyze Kleist's literary means and styles and their theoretical underpinnings. Provides a concise introduction to computational methods for solving large linear systems of equations. It is the only textbook that treats iteration methods for symmetric linear systems from a polynomial point of view. This particular feature enables readers to understand the convergence behavior and subtle differences of the various schemes, which are useful tools for the design of powerful preconditioners.Published nearly 15 years ago, this book continues to be useful to the mathematical, scientific, and engineering communities as a presentation of what appear to be the most efficient methods for symmetric linear systems of equations.To help potential users of numerical iteration algorithms design schemes for their particular needs, the author provides MATLAB® code on a supplementary Web page to serve as a guideline. The code not only solves the linear system but also computes the underlying residual polynomials, illustrating the convergence behavior of the given linear system.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 15th International Colloquium on Theoretical Aspects of Computing, ICTAC 2018, held in Stellenbosch, South Africa, in October 2018. The 25 revised full papers presented together with two short and two long invited talks were carefully reviewed and selected from 59 submissions. The ICTAC conference aims at bringing together researchers and practitioners from academia, industry and government to present research and exchange ideas and experience addressing challenges in both theoretical aspects of computing and the exploitation of theory through methods and tools for system development. ICTAC also specifically aims to promote research cooperation between developing and industrial countries.

The last decade has seen renewed interest in political theories of the public sphere, reacting to new challenges posed by globalization, communication technology, and intra- and international conflicts. However, the role of culture and aesthetics in the formation of the public sphere has received insufficient analytical attention. The essays in this volume explore different strategies for enriching the ongoing debates on this issue, ranging from historical case studies to theoretical examinations of cultural interdependencies and the aesthetic potential of literature and art. The contributions implicitly challenge Jürgen Habermas’ assumption that the public discourse about art and literature should be seen as a mere precursor to the emergence of the public sphere in the eighteenth century, which, from his point of view, is best discussed in the terminology of political theory. Topics range from the French Revolution’s exclusive social metaphors to Herder’s anticipation of virtual publics, from the distortions of public communication to revolutionary potentials of popular taste, and from postcolonial feuilletons to the global bio-political imaginaries evoked by mobile communication. The essays are intended for scholars and students in political theory and philosophy as well as in German, Latin American, and Modern Hebrew literature and culture.

Nachdem Marx seine ökonomischen Studien von 1857/58 zur Selbstverständigung zusammengefasst hatte – seit ihrer Erstveröffentlichung 1939/1941 bekannt als „Grundrisse der Kritik der politischen Ökonomie“ (siehe MEGA II/1) –, plante er die Publikation seines großen ökonomischen Werkes in einzelnen, in zwangloser Folge erscheinenden Heften unter dem Titel „Zur Kritik der politischen Ökonomie“. Das Erste Heft mit den beiden Kapiteln „Die Waare“ und „Das Geld oder die einfache Circulation“ erschien 1859 (siehe MEGA II/2). Das in MEGA II/3 edierte, zunächst als unmittelbare Fortsetzung begonnene Manuskript trug daher ebenfalls den Titel „Zur Kritik der politischen Ökonomie“ und auf den ersten beiden Manuskriptheften zusätzlich die Überschrift „Drittes Capitel. Das Capital im Allgemeinen“. Die in der Zeit von August 1861 bis Juli 1863 geschriebenen 23 Hefte bilden mit ihren rund 1.500 Seiten das umfangreichste von Marx überlieferte Manuskript. In den ersten fünf Heften werden zum Produktionsprozess des Kapitals gehörende Themen dargestellt: 1. Verwandlung von Geld in Kapital, 2. Das absolute Mehrwert, 3. Der relative Mehrwert. Die in den Heften VI bis XV enthaltenen „Theorien über den Mehrwert“ nehmen etwa die Hälfte des gesamten Manuskripts ein: Marx untersucht die ökonomischen Theorien vor Ricardo (Steuart, die Physiokraten, Adam Smith u. a.), die Theorie David Ricardos selbst (wobei der Grundrente breiter Raum gewidmet wird) und Theorien nach Ricardo (Malthus, Torrens, Mill u. a.). In den Heften XVI bis XVIII werden vorwiegend Problemfelder des späteren zweiten und dritten Bandes des „Kapitals“ behandelt, vor allem die Verwandlung von Mehrwert in Profit, die allgemeine Profitrate und der Produktionspreis sowie das tendenzielle Sinken der Profitrate. In den Heften XIX bis XXIII werden die Überlegungen über den relativen Mehrwert, zur formellen und realen Subsumtion der Arbeit unter das Kapital, zur Rückverwandlung von Mehrwert in Kapital sowie zur ursprünglichen Akkumulation fortgesetzt und vervollständigt. Schließlich skizziert Marx im Januar 1863 in Heft XVIII neue Planentwürfe für sein später „Das Kapital“ genanntes Werk, in denen die Gliederung der drei Bände im Wesentlichen vorgegeben wird. So werden insgesamt gesehen in den 23 Heften des Manuskripts von 1861–1863 grundlegende Voraussetzungen der Marx’schen Kapitalismusanalyse geschaffen. Die hier in zweiter, inhaltlich unveränderter Auflage vorgelegte dreibändige Ausgabe ersetzt die seit einigen Jahren vergriffenen sechs Teilbände der MEGA, die in den Jahren 1976 bis 1982 erschienen sind.

Insbesondere mit ihrer Industriespionage stützte die HV A auch die Wirtschaft der UdSSR, indem sie Spitzentechnologien aus dem Westen besorgte, die auf der CoCom-Liste standen. Der Autor, Oberst a.D. Bernd Fischer, wickelte 1990 nicht nur die Auslandsaufklärung der DDR ab, sondern gewann zuvor auch tiefe Einblicke in die Zusammenarbeit mit dem sowjetischen Bruderorgan. Hyperbaric medicine involves the use of barometric pressure great­ er than that at sea level for the treatment of diseases. The term makes no distinction between air, oxygen or any other gas used as a medium of compression. Hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO) refers to the use of pure oxygen for breathing in a hyperbaric chamber via a mask or similar device or breathing freely in a monoplace chamber pressurized with oxygen. HBO is an intermittent, high­ dose oxygen inhalation therapy. We have confined ourselves to the subject of HBO therapy and have not included oxygen therapy at normobaric pressures. With the exception of decompression sick­ ness we have made no attempt to cover diving medicine as many excellent treatises are available on this SUbject. Literature on HBO is extensive, and we estimate that the total number of publication on the subject of hyperbaric medicine dur­ ing the past 150 years exceeds 20000, nearly half published during the past 30 years. No comprehensive textbook on this topic has ever been written in English, nor is there any bibliography more up to date than 1965. The books on the subject have consisted of monographs, reports of symposia and proceedings of the various international congresses on hyperbaric medicine. No definitive work has been published in the past 10 years.

Welcome to the proceedings of the 4th Workshop on Biomedical Image R- istration (WBIR). Previous WBIRs took place in Bled, Slovenia (1999), at the UniversityofPennsylvania,USA(2003)andinUtrecht,TheNetherlands(2006). This year, WBIR was hosted by the Institute Mathematics and Image Proce- ing and the Fraunhofer Project Group on Image Registration and it was held in Lub ¨ eck, Germany. It provided the opportunity to bring together researchers from all over the world to discuss some of the most recent advances in image registration and its applications. We had an excellent collection of papers that were reviewed by at least three reviewers each from a 35-member Program Committee assembled from a wor- wide community of registration experts. This year 17 papers were accepted for oral presentation, while another 7 papers were accepted as poster papers. We believe all of the conference papers were of excellent quality. Registration is a fundamental task in image processing used to match two or more pictures taken, for example, at di?erent times, from di?erent sensors, or from di?erent viewpoints. Establishing the correspondence of structures within medical images is fundamental to diagnosis, treatment planning, and surgical guidance. The conference papers address state-of-the-art techniques for prov- ing reliable and e?cient registration techniques, thereby imposing relationships between speci?c application areas and appropriate registration schemes. We are grateful to all those who contributed to the success of WBIR 2010.
