This book explores the interaction of grammatical components in a wide variety of languages, and presents and exemplifies new experimental and analytic techniques for studying linguistic interfaces. Speaking a language requires access to the different aspects of its grammar - semantic, syntactic, phonological, pragmatic, morphological, and phonetic. Knowing how these interact is crucial to understanding the operations of any specific language and to the explanation of how language in general operates in the mind. In der phonetischen Untersuchung dreier deutscher Standardvarietäten werden globale und lokale prosodische Merkmale zur Akzentsignalisierung und Phrasierung verglichen. Unter soziolinguistischem Blickwinkel werden zunächst gesellschaftliche und sprachliche Bedingungen der drei Zentren gegenübergestellt. Anschließend werden die wichtigsten Ansätze der Prosodieforschung sowie bestehende theoretische und praktische Forschungsdesiderate dargestellt. Das methodische Vorgehen umfasst Perzeptionsversuche, auditive Notation und akustische Messungen eines direkt vergleichbaren Korpus gelesener Äußerungen von 30 Rundfunksprechern. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die deutschen Standardvarietäten auf prosodischer Ebene charakteristische Merkmale aufweisen und dass perzeptiver Eindruck und akustische Messung voneinander abweichen. Damit sind auch die weiterführenden Forschungsaufgaben vorgezeichnet.
