In this exhaustive book on Hilma af Klint published to date, twenty specialists in Modern Art, Art History, the History of Ideas and Religious Studies use their expertise to explore af Klint s unique artistry. The topics range from early Abstract Art and the impact of Darwin and Goethe s Colour Theory, to the importance of occult religious movements such as Theosophy and Anthroposophy which influenced the early modernists. Some of Hilma af Klint s own diary notes and research are also included.   The book is based on a seminar held in conjunction with the extremely successful exhibition Hilma af Klint A Pioneer of Abstraction in 2013 at Moderna Museet in Stockholm. The book has an epilogue by Daniel Birnbaum. This is a new edition that includes a recent essay by Kurt Almqvist, Hilma af Klint s Secret Teachings, Message and Philosophy , based on previously unpublished material. It investigates parts of Hilma af Klint s story that have not been looked at before: the background of her teachings and philosophy; the developments after her death in 1944 up until the formation of The Hilma af Klint Foundation in 1972; and the only heir to her works: the anthropologist Vice-Admiral Erik af Klint (1901 1981), the Foundation s founder and only donor.

When the State Bauhaus opened in Weimar in 1918, the Swiss artist and art theorist Johannes Itten (1888 – 1967) was one of the first teachers to be appointed by Walter Gropius. With his preliminary course, Itten had a considerable effect on the creative training in the Bauhaus; to this day his insights into the theory of colours set standards in art education and in the field of design. Enquiring mind and lecturer, painter and art teacher – Johannes Itten was a very thoughtful artist personality which was reflected in numerous theoretical texts and artworks covering a wide range of styles. Constantly in dialogue with students and colleagues as well as in a study of other cultures and artistic ideas, Itten created works in which he examined colours, their aura, contrasts and forms. Inspired by Adolf Hölzel, his teacher at the Stuttgart Academy, Itten developed, amongst other things, the famous doctrine of colour types whose significance extends far beyond the realms of art into everyday culture. The acknowledged Itten expert Christoph Wagner introduces the artist with his complex and symbolic work and traces an arc from the revolutionary Bauhaus teacher and founder of various art schools to the art theorist of the theory of colours.

Newspaper readers often turn to the back page first and first impressions are important. Press coverage helped to shape what the English thought of the Germans and what they thought of themselves. Crossing the Line? – which includes an important chapter on the German media – focuses largely on the part played by English newspapers in generating a simplistic sporting commentary heavily dependent on stereotypes before it overreached itself in the mid-1990s and the German popular press began to hit back. As English football pundits often remind their viewers: «You can never underestimate the Germans».

Political iconographies are taken to interpret norms of actions, support ideological formations, and enhance moral concepts. Visual rhetorics are understood as active players in the construction and contestation of the political realm and public space. The twenty-one articles by scholars from Europe and the United States explore the political function and cultural impact of images from the perspectives of Art History, American Studies, Visual Culture Studies, History, and Political Science. The contributions in particular address the complex interplay between agent and addressee in the public space as well as issues of national identity, discourses of inclusion and exclusion, and the designation of political spaces within transnational contexts. This volume discusses, from various disciplinary perspectives, the challenges that researchers face when studying the agency of visual media, which has been a central approach since the Iconic Turn of 30 years ago. The editors combine contributions from an international lecture series, showcasing current positions on dealing with the impulses of the Iconic Turn, with others by researchers from the University of Regensburg, where more than 10 years ago the transdisciplinary research cluster "Seeing and Understanding" was founded. The contributions represent a wide range of fields, including art history, philosophy, theology, history, and pedagogy as well as film, dance, religious, and cultural studies.

Zu Beginn werden eine gemeinsame Begriffsgrundlage und Potenziale des Gestaltungsrahmens Industrie 4.0 fur den Prototypenbau erarbeitet. Aufbauend auf einer Analyse von Unternehmen des Prototypenbaus und deren Strukturen sowie den zuvor erarbeiteten Grundlagen werden folgend Anforderungen an das Produkt Prototyp und die Prozesskette hergeleitet, definiert und quantifiziert. Die Entwicklung der Prozesskette fur die Prototypenfertigung im Gestaltungsrahmen Industrie 4.0 findet daraufhin in einer zuvor ausgewahlten Geschaftsprozessmodellierungssprache statt. Die Gedankengange hinter der Entwicklung werden erlautert, die Besonderheiten der Prozesskette vorgestellt und eine Bewertung anhand der zuvor definierten Anforderungen vorgenommen. Abschlieend wird ein Fazit mit Ausblick auf weiteren Forschungsbedarf gezogen. Die Prozesskette demonstriert die Vereinbarkeit von Industrie 4.0 und Prototypenbau. Dabei zeigen die Vernetzung der Produktion mit dem Kunden sowie die virtuelle Produktentstehung und -optimierung das gro te Potenzial hinsichtlich okonomischer und okologischer Gesichts-punkte. Grenzen treten jedoch bei der Automatisierungsmoglichkeit von Anforderungsanalysen und Konzeptentwicklungen auf. Ebenso wird deutlich, dass sich das volle Potenzial an Effizienz- und Effektivitatssteigerungen nur bei einer Umsetzung von Industrie 4.0-Methoden entlang der gesamten Lieferkette entfaltet.

This phenomenon can be found in football, too, but it differs from the need for nostalgia that is visible in society. High Street shops like Past Times are hugely successful in selling commodities that remember the English Commonwealth with goods from the countries that once belonged to it. Also, this becomes visible by the many replica items of daily life that are designed in a retro style but contain modern technology such as radios, watches, alarm clocks and furniture. Football fans can purchase replica shirts of their favourite club from the seventies and even earlier. In the field of football, the introduction of the Premier League in England has ultimately changed the face of football. Football was commodified and has become the most successful part of the entertainment industry. In the wake of the Heysel and Hillsborough disasters football fans got active themselves and started to publish football fanzines as a reaction to the general condemnation they had to endure. In these outlets they mostly opposed the view that every football fan is a hooligan. They also used football fanzines as a platform to remember their heroes and glories of eras long gone. For this reason cultures of memory did become a part of football fanzines and did so very vividly.
