This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 8th International Workshop on Engineering Multi-Agent Systems, EMAS 2020, held in Auckland, New Zealand, in May 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the conference was held virtually. The 10 revised full papers presented in this book were carefully selected and reviewed from 16 submissions. The papers cover a broad range of topics in the domains of agent-oriented software engineering, programming multi-agent systems, declarative agent languages and technologies, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-workshop proceedings of the 5th International Workshop on Empathic Computing, IWEC 2014, co-loacted with PRICAI 2014, held in Gold Coast, QLD, Australia, in December 2014, as well as the 6th International Workshop on Empathic Computing, IWEC 2015, and the 15th Workshop on Computational Models of Natural Argument, CMNA XV, both co-located with PRIMA 2015, held in Bertinoro, Italy, in October 2015.The 12 papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 32 initial submissions. The workshops are going alongside with the PRIMA 2015 Conference and are intended to facilitate active exchange, interaction and comparison of approaches, methods and various ideas in specific areas related to intelligent agent systems and multiagent systems.

This book contains a collection of thoroughly revised tutorial papers based on lectures given by leading researchers at the Second International Summer School on the Reasoning Web in Dresden, Germany, September 2007. The nine tutorial papers cover methods and research issues of the Semantic Web, ontology languages and their relation to description logics, techniques in Web information extraction, employing ontologies to ease construction of software applications, and more.

The Reasoning Web summer school series is a well-established event, attracting experts from academia and industry as well as PhD students interested in fo- dational and applicational aspects of the Semantic Web. This volume contains thelecturenotesofthefourthsummerschool, which took place in Venice, Italy, in September 2008. This year, the school focussed on a number of important application domains, in which semantic web techniques have proved to be p- ticularly e?ective or promising in tackling problems. The ?rst three chapters provide introductory material to: - languages, formalisms, and standards adopted to encode semantic information; - "soft" extensions that might be useful in contexts such as multimedia or social network applications; - controlled natural language techniques to bring ontology authoring closer to end users. The remaining chapters cover major application areas such as social networks, semantic multimedia indexing and retrieval, bioinformatics, and semantic web services.Thepresentationshighlightedwhichtechniquesarealreadybeingsuccessfully applied for purposes such as improving the performance of information retrieval algorithms,enablingtheinteroperationofheterogeneousagents,modellinguser's pro?les and social relations, and standardizing and improving the accuracy of very large and dynamic scienti?c databases. Furthermore, the lectures pointed out which aspects are still waiting for a solution,andthepossiblerolethatsemantictechniquesmayplay,especiallythose reasoningmethodsthathavenotyetbeenexploitedtotheirfullpotential.Wehope thatthe school'smaterialwillinspire further exciting researchinthese areas.
