This proceedings contains some of the papers presented at the Business Object and Implementation Workshops held at OOPSLA'96, OOPSLA'97 and OOPSLA'98. The main theme of the workshops is to document the evolution of business objects, from ~any perspectives, including modelling, implementation, standards and applications. The 1996 workshop intended to clarify the specification, design, and implementation of interoperable, plug and play, distributed business object components and their suitability for delivery of enterprise applications; and to assess the impact of the WWW and, more specifically, the Intranet on the design and implementation of business object components. The main focus of the workshop was: What design patterns will allow implementation of business objects as plug and play components? How can these components be assembled into domain specific frameworks? What are the appropriate architectures/mechanisms as distributed object systems? What for implementing these frameworks organisational and development process issues need to be addressed to successfully deliver these systems? Is this approach an effective means for deploying enterprise application solutions? The third annual workshop (OOPSLA'97) was jointly sponsored by the Accredited Standards Committee X3H7 Object Information Management Technical Committee and the Object Management Group (OMG) Business Object Domain Task Force (BODTF) for the purpose of soliciting technical position papers relevant to the design and implementation of Business Object Systems.

This volume contains the papers presented at the 6th International Conference on Object Oriented Information Systems - OOIS 2000. The conference was hosted by London Guildhall University, London, UK on the 18 - 20 December 2000. The papers published in this volume highlight the contributions of leading researchers and practitioners in the field of Object Technology. The topics covered include: Databases and Programming Issues; Modelling and Design Issues; Electronic Commerce; XML and CORBA Issues; UML and Modelling Issues; Architectures; Patterns and Visualisation; and Measurements.

This revised and expanded second edition is a learning and self-assessment tool for the study of regional anesthesia. The first part deals with the basic principles of regional anesthesia and the equipment used. This is followed by sections on peripheral nerve blocks, central neuraxial blocks and pain. Pediatric regional anesthesia is discussed along with the adult blocks. There are additional MCQs in each section, and new chapters on the anatomy, physiology, assessment and monitoring of acute pain.This book is aimed at those studying for the European Society of Regional Anesthesia Diploma Examinations, regional anesthesia component of FRCA examinations, and exit examinations for regional anesthesia fellowships. It is also relevant to the regional anesthesia component of US Board examinations and the Canadian fellowships in regional anesthesia.

This volume contains the papers presented at the International Conference on Object Oriented Information Systems - OOIS '94. Containing contributions from leading researchers and practitioners working on object technology and its application in information systems design and development, OOIS'94 has a strong practical focus and contains much technical insight of particular relevance to professionals working in the field. Two main themes are covered - object oriented modelling concepts and object oriented databases and their applications - and topics covered include modelling, knowledgebases, software development, interface design, object databases, distributed databases and emerging object technologies.

The OOIS series of conferences has provided a forum for the presentation and exchange of academic research and industrial experiences within the ?eld of information systems, based on object-oriented technology. The 8th International Conference on OOIS was held in the University of Montpellier from 2nd to 5th September 2002. The conference focused on the - sign, maintenance and implementation of web-based information systems. The ?rst day consisted of preconference workshops. The workshop themes included the specialization/generalization hierarchy, reuse, optimization in web-based - formation systems, and model-driven software development. The main conference program also included four invited papers, namely "C- porate Semantic Webs" by Dr. Rose Dieng, INRIA, France, "A Framework for De?ning E-business Models" by Prof. Yves Pigneur, University of Lausanne, Switzerland, "GRID in E-business" by Pierre Sabloni'ere, IBM, France, and "The Latest Development on Cognitive Informatics" by Dr. Yingxu Wang, University of Calgary, Canada. The conference attracted 116 papers from more than 20 countries and the program committee accepted 34 regular papers and 17 short papers.The selected papers included the following themes: - advanced object-information systems, - web-based information systems, - knowledge management in object information systems, - CORBA, - e-business, - software metrics, - object databases.

Since the mid-1980s, object technology has gained widespread acceptance within the software industry. Within a wider context, however, it has made little impact on the core applications which support businesses in carrying out their tasks. This volume contains a collection of papers establishing the need for business objects, with particular reference to work undertaken by the Object Management Group (OMG). The emphasis is on defining an agenda for establishing business object standards and architectures, for developing software technology to support business objects applications and managing object-oriented development projects.
