Time series analysis is one of several branches of statistics whose practical importance has increased with the availability of powerful computational tools. Methodology that was originally developed for specialized applications, for example in finance or geophysics, is now widely available within general statistical packages. The second edition of Time Series: A Biostatistical Introduction is an introductory account of time series analysis, written from the perspective of applied statisticians whose interests lie primarily in the biomedical and health sciences. This edition has a stronger focus on substantive applications, in which each statistical analysis is directed at a specific research question. Separate chapters cover simple descriptive methods of analysis, including time-plots, smoothing, the correlogram and the periodogram; theory of stationary random processes; discrete-time models for single series; continuous-time models for single series; generalized linear models for time series of counts; models for replicated series; spectral analysis, and bivariate time series.The book is unique in its focus on biomedical and health science applications, which has been strengthened in this second edition. Nevertheless, the methods described are more widely applicable. It should be useful to teachers and students on masters-level degree courses in statistics, biostatistics and epidemiology, and to biomedical and health scientists with a knowledge of statistical methods at undergraduate level. Throughout, examples based on real datasets show a close interplay between statistical method and substantive science. This book will also describe the implementation of the methods in the R computing environment and provide access to R code and datasets.

Model-based Geostatistics for Global Public Health: Methods and Applications provides an introductory account of model-based geostatistics, its implementation in open-source software and its application in public health research. In the public health problems that are the focus of this book, the authors describe and explain the pattern of spatial variation in a health outcome or exposure measurement of interest. His research interests involve the development of novel geostatistical methods for disease mapping, with a special focus on malaria and other tropical diseases. In 2018, Dr Giorgi was awarded the Royal Statistical Society Research Prize "for outstanding published contribution at the interface of statistics and epidemiology." He is also the lead developer of PrevMap, an R package where all the methodology found in this book has been implemented.

This book aims to provide bases for reasoning on what challenges urban-architectural design for vulnerable communities will face in the coming years. Several issues, such as technological development, climate change, political crisis and economic uncertainties show as traditional strategies and methodologies are not sufficient to deeply solve the problems of these complex realities. These new changes, which are studied in different fields of knowledge, highlight the fact that the development of effective solutions must be characterized by multidisciplinary approaches and must be based on strategies promoted by different disciplines. For this reason, this contributed volume collects contributions and considerations from experts in various fields of knowledge working in different parts of the world, such as the Americas, Europe and Asia. The goal is precisely to provide the reader with multidisciplinary knowledge and methodologies in order to better reflect and analyze the challenges that designing for vulnerable communities will face in the next few years. This book presents a critical vision of the role of architecture and design in constantly changing cities, territories and societies from a Latin American perspective. Topics include, pandemic and post-pandemic; public culture and aesthetics; right to housing, city and services, gender approach and ethics of care; heritage and cultures, critical methodology; sustainable landscapes; perceptions and emotions; processes and technologies; territories and intermediate cities.The IV Intersections Congress was organized by high-level universities in Latin American: faculties of architecture, design and urban studies that came together during an historical moment of great changes. The congress was an invitation to weave conversations that address the tensions emerging in local, regional and global debates, with the goal of understanding how architecture, design, city and territory are a relevant intersection for these tensions. This translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence. A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content.
