Språket, människan och världen är en introduktion till lingvistik, utvecklad för gymnasiekurserna Människans språk 1 och 2 på det humanistiska programmet. I läromedlet lotsas eleverna genom språkvetenskapens olika delar. Här presenteras grunderna i ämnet, liksom den nyaste forskningen. Tanken är att eleverna ska få stifta bekantskap med en bred palett av språklig allmänbildning, snarare än detaljer om enskilda språk. This volume deals with the use of the local cases in Tocharian A and Tocharian B, Indo-European languages of the Tarim Basin, Eastern Central Asia, of the 6th to 9th centuries AD. Tocharian is basically inflectional-agglutinative, and this ten-dency is dominant in the case system. This study concentrates on the local cases expressing location and direction (i.e. oblique, allative, perlative, and locative) in case constructions and adpositional phrases expressing local and temporal relations. A theoretical discussion of the nature of the local cases and a possible evolution of their functions from Proto-Tocharian to Tocharian A and Tocharian B concludes this study.

The notion of cultural aspects of language variation and change is a growing field. However, collective works on the current stance within this domain are still scarce. The Mouton Atlas of Languages and Cultures embraces a substantial part of the Eurasian continent and equips the reader to better observe, reconstruct and understand the impact of culture and cultural changes on language diversity and linguistic developments. Along the way, a fascinating range of interdisciplinary issues, from database encoding conventions to etymologies and cultural anthropology, are discussed.

Based on an extensive database assembled by Gerd Carling and her team in Lund, Sweden, the atlas presents typological and lexical data of more than 200 ancient and modern languages, many encoded for the very first time. Alongside classic maps, the atlas features new visualizations, such as polygons and network diagrams, which smartly illustrate complex linguistic patterns of borrowability, co-lexification and semantic evolution and thereby provide entirely new perspectives.

Scandoromani: Remnants of a Mixed Language is the first, comprehensive, international description of the language of the Swedish and Norwegian Romano, also labeled resande/reisende. The language, an official minority language in Sweden and Norway, has a history in Scandinavia going back to the early 16th century. A mixed language of Romani and Scandinavian, it is spoken today by a vanishingly small population of mainly elderly people. This book is based on in-depth linguistic interviews with two native speakers of different families (one of whom is the co-author) as well as reviews of earlier sources on Scandoromani. The study reveals a number of interesting features of the language, as well as of mixed languages in general. In particular, the study gives support to the model of autonomy of mixed languages.
