Bristande jämställdhet mellan kvinnor och män och könsdiskriminerande praktiker har över tid fått alltmer uppmärksamhet. Kraven och förväntningarna på världens stater, inte minst de relativt sett så jämställda nordiska länderna, att åtgärda problemen är stora. Lagstiftning är ett medel som staterna har till sitt förfogande. Rättens betydelse, dess möjligheter och tillkortakommanden i relation till ojämställdhet och diskriminerande praktiker är temat för denna antologi. I nitton artiklar av danska, finska, norska och svenska forskare verksamma inom fältet kjønn og rett, diskuteras sambandet mellan kön och rätt under fyra aktuella teman, alla med förändring i fokus. De tre första rör förändringar i samhället och i rätten, såsom i förståelsen av kön och dess betydelse för rätten till jämställdhet och ickediskriminering, förändringar i välfärdsstaten och förändrade gränser mellan det offentliga och det privata. Det sista temat behandlar förändringar i forskningsfältet som sådant. Bidragen bygger på presentationer från konferensen Kjønn og rett teori og metode som hölls på Sommarøy utanför Tromsø i november 2009. Antologin ger en översikt över forskningsfältet idag, hur det har utvecklats under de drygt fyrtio år som det funnits som en del av den nordiska rättsvetenskapen och vilka frågor som är angelägna att studera vidare för morgondagens forskning.

As other such phenomena â€“ like music, literature, or art â€“ it is acknowledged that it is created in a specific environment, on which it is dependent for its functioning and interpretation.
The historical aspects of love in a European and Nordic context are underlined, as well as the modern understanding of love and law as incompatible and contrasting concepts. Developments within the European Union and especially the relation of the EU to so called third country nationals and immigrants demonstrate that the problematic concerning law and love is not only one of legal philosophy but also of legal and everyday reality.
The claim that love has been specifically â€˜Europeanâ€™ is discarded as Eurocentrist, and the need for more particular emotions and a more pragmatic approach to romantic feelings, for a â€˜reasonable loveâ€™ is discussed from legal, feminist and philosophical perspectives.

For many nations, a key challenge is how to achieve sustainable development without a return to centralized planning. Using case studies from Greenland, Hawaii and northern Norway, this 2006 book examines whether 'bottom-up' systems such as customary law can play a critical role in achieving viable systems for managing natural resources. Customary law consists of underlying social norms that may become the acknowledged law of the land. The key to determining whether a custom constitutes customary law is whether the public acts as if the observance of the custom is legally obligated. While the use of customary law does not always produce sustainability, the study of customary methods of resource management can produce valuable insights into methods of managing resources in a sustainable way.

I Den obalanserade hierarkin beskrivs ett jämställdhetsprojekt på en forskarutbildning vid universitetet i Lund. Tolv gästprofessorer – alla kvinnor – arbetade med doktorander i sociologi, socialantropologi, rättssociologi och medie- och kommunikationsvetenskap. De diskuterade med doktoranderna om deras avhandlingsprojekt och om deras framtid. Här ges en bakgrund till varför projektet sattes igång. I boken beskriver även de tolv gästprofessorerna sina erfarenheter från arbetet bland doktoranderna.Vidare diskuteras vad gästprofessorerna sett och gett. En slutsats blir att de som ”utomstående” kunde göra viktiga nya observationer om forskarutbildningen. De kunde också fylla andra uppgifter för doktoranderna än vad de ”vanliga” handledarna kunde. Gästprofessorerna kunde se och ge något annat än det egna universitetets lärare.ANN-MARI SELLERBERG är seniorprofessor vid Sociologiska institutionen, Lunds universitet.
