The idea of this book came to us in October 2002 at the international conference “Production systems design, supply chain management and logistics” (Miedzyzdroje, Poland). This conference was organized by an initiative group from certain French and Polish Universities with the objective to find a new synergy and to develop a Pan European (West – East) cooperation in the areas of: Design of production systems Supply and inventory management Production planning and scheduling Facility location, transportation and logistics Supply chain optimisation via simulation The conference was focused on a wide spectrum of optimisation problems taking into account Supply Chain paradigms, which create a pivotal idea to increase the productivity of modern production systems. The editors proposed to the group members, to present their results for this book. Some well-known scientists agreed also to participate in this work and sent us their contribution. The main idea of this book is that now, it is necessary to consider all the stages of product life cycle in an integrated approach, from the product/process design to the customer delivering. For example at the product design stage, we need to analyse and to optimise all the supply chain. The book is composed of 20 chapters divided into three parts.

A collection of 40 selected papers presented to the eighth International Conference on Computer Systems, October 2001 in Mielno, Poland. These papers provide a summary of practice and research progress in information technologies. The first section - recognition, security and safety - concentrates on the widely-known problems of information systems security. These chapters show the new cryptographic data protection algorithms which can be easily used in authorizing secure procedures for the user's information systems. The next section - methods of artificial intelligence - presents methods and algorithms which are the basics for the applications of artificial intelligence environments. These chapters include fuzzy classifiers to analyze statistical data in the economic area, genetic algorithms applications to synthesize neuron and fuzzy regulators and the fuzzy set theory for expert systems. This is followed by - intelligent agents and distributed activities - which includes laboratory research on multiagent intelligent systems as well as upon their applications in searching information, negotiating and supporting decision.An adaptive knowledge system is also presented here as a basis of a multiagent system. Tools for creating remote teaching systems (XML language, Petri Networks) and problems to support remote teaching by means of a knowledge base are also discussed. The final section - distributed productions networks and modelling complex systems - presents production processes in distributed shared virtual environment, virtual solution of integer optimization problems and a queuing approach to performance optimization in the distributed production network. Attention is also paid to complex dynamic economic and engineering systems.

"Artificial Intelligence and Security in Computing Systems" is a peer-reviewed conference volume focusing on three areas of practice and research progress in information technologies. The methods of artificial intelligence section presents methods and algorithms which are the basis for applications of artificial intelligence environments. These papers include using fuzzy expert systems in political and economic matters, genetic algorithm application for optimalization of a ship's trajectory and using rough set theory in decision processes and application of neural network for classification problems. The multiagent systems section includes laboratory research on multiagent intelligent systems as well as upon their applications in transportation and information systems. The use of natural language in multiagent information systems is described in detail. The general design of the simulation system for a light airplane, created as a part of an intelligent multiagent tutoring system, is also presented. The computer security and safety section presents techniques and algorithms which should be of interest to practitioners.In general, it focuses on new cryptographic algorithms (including a symmetric key encryption scheme, hash functions, secret generation and sharing schemes and secure data storage), a formal language for policy access control description and its implementation and risk management methods (used for continuous analysis both in distributed network and software development projects).
