Svensk pedagogisk forskning har under ett flertal år utvecklat interkulturella perspektiv, såväl metodiskt som teoretiskt. Den har visat hur viktigt det är att skolorna i dagens mångkulturella samhälle fokuserar på att främja interkulturellt lärande. I denna antologi presenteras aktuell forskning. Bidragen visar att skillnaderna i barns och ungas uppväxtvillkor har ökat i Sverige. De visar också att diskriminering och rasism är återkommande problem och att modersmålsundervisningen är starkt marginaliserad. Samtidigt pekar de på möjligheter som finns för att stärka skolors och föreningars interkulturella arbete, hur lärare kan arbeta med svåra och kontroversiella texter i undervisningen och hur ungdomsföreningar med estetisk bildningspraktik kan bidra till interkulturellt engagemang.
