This monograph collates the latest techniques in a number of specific design areas of turbo-detected MIMO-OFDM wireless systems. As a result a wide range of topical subjects are examined, including channel coding and multiuser detection (MUD), with a special emphasis on optimum maximum-likelihood (ML) MUDs, reduced-complexity genetic algorithm aided near-ML MUDs and sphere detection. The benefits of spreading codes as well as joint iterative channel and data estimation are only a few of the radical new features of the book.

Also considered are the benefits of turbo and LDPC channel coding, the entire suite of known joint coding and modulation schemes, space-time coding as well as SDM/SDMA MIMOs within the context of various application examples. The book systematically converts the lessons of Shannon''s information theory into design principles applicable to practical wireless systems; the depth of discussions increases towards the end of the book.

This book presents recent advances in foreign language education as well as recent work on Chinese language education and CFL teacher development in international contexts. It also reports the results of three qualitative studies on the experiences and beliefs of teachers of the Chinese language in in Denmark.

There are rising concerns over quality issues in both Chinese language education and teacher development in Scandinavian countries and worldwide, broadly due to China’s rapid growth and the increasing worldwide popularity of Chinese. What CFL (Chinese as a Foreign Language) teachers believe in teaching and experience in the intercultural context have proposed new questions and issues. The book addresses issues and topics such as teacher beliefs about Chinese language teaching, factors shaping teacher beliefs, the teaching of Chinese by both native and non-native teachers, Chinese language and culture teaching, intercultural encounters and challenges, etc. It provides both macro- and micro-level insights into the key issues and challenges in the development of Chinese language teachers in Denmark and the Scandinavian region.

Taking the perspectives of Chinese language teachers’ beliefs and experiences, this book reveals teachers’ beliefs about their roles, objectives, and ways of teaching at the micro level. It also discusses the macro-level factors that promote or impede the adaptation of native-speaking teachers of Chinese and the development of Chinese-language education in this Nordic country. This book makes both empirical and conceptual contributions to the debate on privatization of higher education in China. Empirically, it aims to fill a gap in our knowledge of privatization of higher education in North China. To this end, Beijing was chosen as a case for analysis, and nine local higher educational institutions were visited. The case study strategy is also complemented by an extensive review of national policies to reveal problems beyond the specific case of Beijing and of national concern. The effects of the cultural and socioeconomic background and the unique state-party controlling system on higher education management are stressed. Conceptually, most existing studies on privatization of higher education in China adopt a policy analysis approach, while research on privatization of other public sectors or in other countries is frequently guided by economic theories. This book thus seeks to combine both social policy and econometric approaches to provide a systematic and detailed investigation of the privatization process in the context of higher education. It also improves examines the applicability of western theories in the Chinese context.
