The synthesis and secretion of milk is one of unique characteristic of the mammals to nourish the neonate. India is producing the largest quantity of milk in the world and augmentation of lactation is the need of our. Although many reference books have been written on lactation, yet there is a scarcity of a concise book which could meet the requirements of graduate and postgraduate students of physiology. The book has been written to cover the various aspects of lactation physiology in farm animals.The anatomy and development of mammary glands has been discussed with simple diagrams. The blood circulation, innervation, endocrinology and environmental factors affecting the milk production have also been included. The book deals with the characteristics of good dairy animals and clean milk production practices besides mastitis and persistency of lactation. The book also deals with the physiology of transition animals, milk synthesis, nutrient budgeting during lactation and the advancement made in milk secretion during last two decades. There is need for a pest control strategy that can be sustained and does not produce adverse side effects. After a nationally or regionally recognized pest problem has been brought under control with IPM, policymakers and technical staff are usually much more receptive to the approach, and also more willing to make the necessary policy and institutional changes to support it in the long term. The changes may include removal of pesticide subsidies, tighter enforcement of pesticide regulations, and incentives for local production of IPM inputs, such as insectaries for natural predators. This book contains the basic principles of pests, diseases and weeds into a single, integrated program. Plant Protection is a dynamic field and a systematic understanding of the strategies involved is necessary for the successful management of plants and crops and to permit constant updating.
