In the context of renewed global interest in the development of vocational skills, policy makers in many countries as well as representatives of technical organisations often hope to reform existing training systems by borrowing models and policies that seem to work elsewhere. One of these prominent models is that of ‘National Qualifications Framework’, the use of which now spans the entire globe. On a much smaller scale, the ‘Dual Model’ of vocational training – a systematic combination of school and workplace-based learning that is common in a number of countries in Western Europe – has also gained attention in international cooperation.Bringing together contributions from authors involved in both the theory and practice of vocational skills training development, this volume analyses the challenges that are tied to the transfer of these two dominant models in the context of international cooperation, sheds light on how they are being implemented, and discusses alternatives to the standard approaches to policy transfer.

Fahrerassistenzsysteme unterstützen den Fahrer in seiner Fahraufgabe und entlasten ihn dadurch gezielt. Viele Experten erwarten, dass Fahrerassistenzsysteme zur Sicherheit des Straßenverkehrs wesentlich beitragen werden. Zentrale wissenschaftliche und industrielle Herausforderungen bestehen zur Zeit in der Erforschung und Entwicklung maschineller Wahrnehmungsfähigkeiten, die eine angemessene Erfassung der Umwelt und deren fahrergerechte Integration in geeignete Fahrfunktionen leisten. Dieser Band basiert auf ausgewählten Vorträgen eines Workshops in Walting (Altmühltal) und macht deren Inhalt in erweiterter Fassung zugänglich. In bislang nicht vorliegender Interdisziplinarität diskutieren Experten aus Wissenschaft und Praxis unterschiedlichste Ansätze aus vielfältigen Bereichen wie der maschinellen Wahrnehmung, Mensch-Maschine-Interaktion, Wissensrepräsentation, Funktionsentwicklung und Wirtschaftsethik. Über die fachlich-technische Auseinandersetzung mit Fahrerassistenzsystemen hinaus wird damit auch ein Beitrag zum notwendigen Diskurs über deren Auswirkung und gesellschaftliche Akzeptanz geleistet.

In the face of accelerated economic globalisation, many of the industries in economically less developed countries have become more technology-intensive. Skill formation processes, both inside and outside firms, are therefore changing. This study scrutinises such transformations by comparing – from the perspective of historical institutionalism – the skill formation regimes of the garment industries in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. It sheds light on the differences between the trajectories of the in-firm skill formation regimes of the two countries, and reveals the important part that varying paths of educational development in both countries have played in shaping these trajectories. At the same time, the study shows how, in both countries, state-led skill formation regimes have been transformed not only by market forces and the growing importance of corporate business interests, but also by the social demand for educational credentials.

Darüber hinaus enthält es eine Übersicht der Rahmenbedingungen für die Entwicklung solcher Systeme sowie Erläuterungen der angewandten Entwicklungs- und Testwerkzeuge. This open access book explains in detail systems and technologies for assisted and automated driving. It also provides an overview of the limitations of such systems concerning development processes and test tools. This description covers today’s advanced driver assistance systems with environment perception in passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and motorcycles. This includes functional principles as well as embodiments of the components required for this purpose, such as sensors, actuators, mechatronic subsystems, and actuating elements. This book takes a look at fully automated, autonomous vehicles and discusses many open questions: How can autonomous vehicles be integrated into the current transportation system with diverse users and human drivers? Where do automated vehicles fall under current legal frameworks? What risks are associated with automation and how will society respond to these risks? How will the marketplace react to automated vehicles and what changes may be necessary for companies?Experts from Germany and the United States define key societal, engineering, and mobility issues related to the automation of vehicles. They discuss the decisions programmers of automated vehicles must make to enable vehicles to perceive their environment, interact with other road users, and choose actions that may have ethical consequences.
