This book presents an in-depth overview of the novel developments made by the scientific leaders in the area of modern dielectric films for advanced microelectronic applications. It contains clear, concise explanations of material science of dielectric films and their problem for device operation, including high-k, low-k, medium-k dielectric films and also specific features and requirements for dielectric films used in the packaging technology. A broad range of related topics are covered, from physical principles to design, fabrication, characterization, and applications of novel dielectric films.

"Left-Over Stories" are those I couldn''t fit into Volume I. These include a story telling you how to make "Money", worth the price of the book alone, and a trilogy continuing the story of the young man in "Being in Love" with "Getting Married" and "Struggling On" in the early married years.

The third section has stories written just for fun, which I hope, will be fun to read. There''s a ghost story, a vampire story, a love potion story, a magic ring story and more. In the last story, "Unfinished Business", a writer tries to outwit death.

First published in 1984, The English Novel in the Twentieth Century discusses six authors whom Dr Green saw as the most interesting fiction writers of twentieth century Britain: Kipling, Lawrence, Joyce, Waugh, Amis, and Lessing. The author asks how these novelists responded to and expressed in their work the pressure exerted upon all English people by their possession and subsequent loss of the Empire. The intrinsic literary interest of each writer turns out to have something to do with their response to England’s plight as an imperialist and post-imperialist power.

Dr Green begins with Kipling, who not only talks about the Empire but also expresses the Empire in several indirect ways. He points out that Kipling is a much more pervasive and powerful presence in English literature after 1918 than has been recognized and goes on to show that D.H. Lawrence reacted against Kipling in his major work – speaking against Empire, and for women and the private life. Dr Green then turns to Joyce and discusses both the overt and the implicit anti-imperialism of his work. In each case, he has something to say about another novelist who can be associated with the principal subject of the chapter – for example, Forster with Lawrence, Wells with Joyce. He continues with chapters on Evelyn Waugh and Kingsley Amis, who begin their careers by mocking Kipling and the ruling class of the Empire, but who gradually turn into their defenders – and who eventually take on some of Kipling’s own characteristics. The book concludes with a discussion of Doris Lessing, the most committed of anti-imperialists.

The author is still writing short stories; at this time, hes had a little over 200 stories published, most of them in the online magazines he discovered four or five years ago. In addition to A Year in Retirement, hes included in this book 25 short stories that have been published but not collected before.

Martin Green is a retiree/free-lance writer living in Roseville, California. In 1991, the year after he retired, he started writing articles for a weekly alternative newspaper in Sacramento, Suttertown News.. In the same year, he began free-lancing for the Neighbors section of the Sacramento Bee, contributing over 100 articles until Neighbors was discontinued in 2002.. Since 2000, Hes been writing for a monthly newspaper, the Sun Senior News, which goes to over 10,000 households in two retirement communities, Sun City Roseville (where he lives) and Sun City Lincoln Hills. He currently does two monthly features, Observations and Favorite Restaurants.

This book is a collection of all, or almost all, of Martins journalistic pieces. It starts with his first story for Suttertown News, about how a water district was coping with a then years-long drought, and ends with a piece he wrote about his father for the Sun Senior News. The stories include profi les of people such as David Freeman, then head of SMUD; two notable writers in Davis, Kim Stanley Robinson and Karen Joy Fowler; a number of artists, musicians and other writers; many active senior citizens, and survivors of Pearl Harbor. They also cover places such as art galleries, restaurants, museums, coffee houses and swim and tennis clubs, and events such as the Elk Grove Strauss Festival, the Folsom rodeo and the first Saturday Night Art Walk.

In addition to his journalism, Martin has had over 200 short stories published in online magazines and has so far self-published three collections of these stories (2006, 2007 and 2008) as well as a longer work, One Year in Retirement (2009) and a collection of his Observations (2010). He has been married to Beverly (a water-color artist) for 46 years, has three sons (David, Michael and Christopher), three grandsons (Mason, Morgan and Logan), one granddaughter (Stephanie) and two cats (Bun-Bun and Shandyman).
