Schreiben, Ordnen und Bearbeiten sind essenzielle Praktiken philosophischer Tätigkeit. Ihre Spuren in Originaldokumenten sind als Überlieferungsbefunde nicht nur für Editionen relevant. Indem sie Einblick in die Arbeitsweisen von Philosoph*innen geben, eröffnen sie auch neue, praxisgesättigte Perspektiven auf die Frage «Was ist Philosophie?».Aus theoretischer und methodologischer Perspektive befassen sich die Autor*innen dieses Bandes mit dokumentgebundenen Praktiken und Arbeitsweisen und erörtern die Bedeutung, die sie für die philosophiehistorische Forschung haben. Neben hermeneutischen Zugängen wird in den Beiträgen dabei insbesondere das Verhältnis von Philosophie und (Editions-)Philologie reflektiert. Anhand von Fallstudien zeichnet sich ein exemplarisches Bild philosophischer Praxis vom 18. bis ins 20. Jahrhundert ab, in dem sich die Philosophie zunehmend professionalisiert und als Fachwissenschaft verstanden wird.
