Freiheit ist das Problem jeder traditionellen Prädestinationslehre: Es gibt keine; zumindest keine echte, die wesentlichen Dinge des Lebens betreffende. Dem Franziskanertheologen Wilhelm von Ockham († 1347) aber war es ein besonderes Anliegen, den als Wahlfreiheit verstandenen freien Willen zu bewahren. Darum legte der "genialste aller Scholastiker" (Luther) eine Prädestinationslehre vor, die sowohl den Vorgaben der Tradition als auch seiner persönlichen Hochschätzung der Wahlfreiheit gerecht wurde.Michael Beyer stellt Ockhams Prädestinationslehre dar und zeigt sie dabei als Teil eines wohldurchdachten theologischen Systems, das an logischer Klarheit seinesgleichen sucht. Prädestinations- und Rechtfertigungslehre begegnen darin stets als Einheit. Da noch Luthers Erfurter Lehrer erheblich vom Denken des Venerabilis Inceptor geprägt waren, mag diese Studie überdies einen Beitrag dazu leisten, den Ausgangspunkt von Luthers Theologie besser zu verstehen.

Special attention is paid to the neutral meson systems and the recent confirmation of CP violation in the B meson system. The theory and the novel methods needed for these experiments are given in detail. The classical and ongoing searches for the electric dipole moment of the neutron and other null tests of time-reversal symmetry are included. An elementary introduction is given to the astrophysical implications of CP violation, to tackle the puzzle of matter--antimatter asymmetry in our Universe. The aim of the book is to present recent achievements and discuss future developments in a way accessible to both postgraduate students and nonspecialist researchers.
