This book presents a systematic treatment of generalized Orlicz spaces (also known as Musielak–Orlicz spaces) with minimal assumptions on the generating Φ-function. It introduces and develops a technique centered on the use of equivalent Φ-functions. Results from classical functional analysis are presented in detail and new material is included on harmonic analysis. Extrapolation is used to prove, for example, the boundedness of Calderón–Zygmund operators. Finally, central results are provided for Sobolev spaces, including Poincaré and Sobolev–Poincaré inequalities in norm and modular forms.Primarily aimed at researchers and PhD students interested in Orlicz spaces or generalized Orlicz spaces, this book can be used as a basis for advanced graduate courses in analysis.

Analyysiä reaaliluvuilla on suunniteltu käytettäväksi yliopistossa ensimmäisen vuoden matemaattisen analyysin opetuksessa ja kattamaan kaikki sen keskeiset asiat. Lukijalta edellytetään lukion matematiikan oppimäärän hallintaa. Teoria on esitetty perusteellisesti, ja sitä havainnollistetaan yli 120 kuvalla ja lukuisilla esimerkeillä. Jokaisen luvun loppuun on koottu aiheeseen liittyviä harjoitustehtäviä. Kirja koostuu viidestä osasta. Aluksi esitellään reaaliluvut aksioomien avulla, ja sen jälkeen käsitellään raja-arvoa ensin lukujonoille ja sitten funktiolle. Toisessa osassa sovelletaan raja-arvoa funktion jatkuvuuteen ja derivoituvuuteen sekä tutustutaan eksponentti- ja logaritmifunktioihin. Kolmannessa osassa käsitellään Riemannin integraalia, integraalifunktioita, integroimistekniikoita ja epäoleellista integraalia. Neljännessä osassa esitetään tasainen suppeneminen ja Taylorin polynomi. Kirjan viimeinen eli viides osa käsittelee sarjoja ja niiden suppenemista sekä potenssisarjoja.Tähän uuteen Gaudeamuksen julkaisemaan laitokseen on tehty lukuisia korjauksia, tarkennuksia ja lisäyksiä.
