Failure Case Studies: Steel Structures, provides case studies of failures observed in steel structures between 1970 and 2013. This book supplies a summary of the published findings from eight steel structure failure investigations and a valuable collection of references that can be used by civil engineering students and practicing engineers to improve their failure literacy. Engineering professors and students can use these case studies as the basis for class discussions, a starting point for further research, and a reminder that learning from past failures can avoid similar failures in the future and lead to improved engineering practices. Practicing engineers can use the book as a continuing education resource to improve their practice and to avoid similar failures.Failure Case Studies: Steel Structures, provides case studies of failures observed in steel structures between 1970 and 2013. Designed to promote learning from failures by disseminating information regarding previous failure cases, each case study is comprised of a summary description of a documented civil engineering failure followed by lessons learned from the failure and references for further study. Case studies include West Gate bridge collapseUniversity of Washington stadium collapseDamage to steel moment resisting frames during the Northridge EarthquakeColorado State Route 470 overpass collapsePittsburgh Convention Center expansion joint failureI-35W bridge collapseElliot Lake Algo mall collapse; andSkagit River Bridge collapse. This book supplies a summary of the published findings from eight steel structure failure investigations and a valuable collection of references that can be used by civil engineering students and practicing engineers to improve their failure literacy. This book provides an introduction to frame theory in Banach and Hilbert spaces, with a particular focus on the Banach space aspects of the frame theory and its applications. The authors present main developments from recent decades in the theory of frames, dilations, operator-valued measures, sampling, and related applications. By bridging topics from Banach space geometry, applied harmonic analysis, and quantum information theory, the book highlights a novel perspective: frame theory not only serves as a powerful and central tool in mathematics and engineering, but is also deeply intertwined with the structure and theory of Banach spaces. Rather than providing an exhaustive treatment, the book offers a broadly relevant and accessible overview that enables researchers across various fields to quickly grasp the foundational ideas and explore related research directions.

China is a powerful engine of the global economy and the country's rise is undoubtedly the outcome of its protracted campaign of designing and implementing national development strategies since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. This book reviews the transformation and innovation of China's economic development strategies, especially Deng Xiaoping's Three-Step strategy and Xi Jinping's internal and external strategies. By introducing the concept of strategic paradigm, it analyzes the theoretical basis of myriads of economic development strategies and predicts China's choice. With the evolutionary process and the outstanding problems in national development planning as the main thread, it discusses the improvement of the national planning system, specifically of the national overall planning system, the regional planning system, the interplay and conflict between regional planning. It also studies the reform of city-county planning system, major function-oriented zones (MFOZs) and planning legislation and institutionalization. It also attempts to put forward proposals to coordinate the interests of planning departments and make different types of planning at different administrative levels compatible.
