The need for all health care professionals to develop research appreciation skills has been recognized and emphasized. Otherwise, research remains irrelevant and unrelated to practice. Traditional research textbooks have used the format of the research process which makes research seem even more difficult and remote. This book is different. Because the purpose of research appreciation is to enable practitioners to use research to develop and improve practice, it focuses instead on the skills of research appreciation and application which are distinct from the skills necessary to undertake research. It prepares you to access, critically evaluate, understand and use research-based literature within the multi-disciplinary context of today's health services, and emphasises:The range of sources of knowledge which inform nursing practiceContemporary research and the context in which health care research and development takes placeCritical evaluation of research reports and research-based literature, examining the implication of project design and conductThe range of skills needed for the application of research findings and innovation within practice

First Published in 1994. How do women in the academy survive? How can women empower themselves? How can we develop feminist strategies in teaching, learning and research in Higher Education? Changing the Subject: Women in Higher Education explores these fundamental questions and presents strategies for changing and challenging the mainstream curriculum in Higher Education. Drawing on experience, research and theory, the contributors explore the contradictions that have to be managed by women in academia. The chapters analyse the interrelationship between women's roles and status as workers in higher education, their experiences as teachers and students, their representation within the curriculum, and the tensions between life in and out of the academy. Differences and inequalities between women are confronted: what it is to be an 'ebony woman' in the 'ivory tower', for example, or to be 'caught between two worlds' as a mother and academic. This diverse collection brings together everyday issues which women teaching and learning in higher education have themselves identified as important. It provides an opportunity to share the successes, struggles and practical strategies of women who are trying to change the 'subject' of higher education. This volume will be of relevance and interest to all those concerned with women's equality and wider educational issues on a personal and professional Level.

The Mother of Apis inscriptions (534-41 BC), found in 1966-71 in and outside the Mother of Apis Catacomb at North Saqqara by the Egypt Exploration Society, comprise the stelae and graffiti of the masons who constructed the catacomb and of the priests who oversaw the work and conducted the burial and other rituals for the cows. The texts include genealogies of the masons and some accounts of their work and rations. As well as their scientific importance for the understanding of Egyptian sacred animal cults, social life and chronology, they have a strong human interest. This study includes transliterations, translations and explanatory notes on all the texts found, together with commentaries and indexes.

Improving the quality of life for older adults living in long term care settings is recognised as an increasingly important issue.Understanding Care Homes draws together a range of research and development initiatives that emphasise the importance of partnership working, and of enabling older people and their families to maintain the highest quality of life. The book is divided into three sections, each investigating how research and development can be undertaken to provide better care for the individual resident and their family, to enhance care at the organisational level and to develop the care home's relationships within the wider community. By addressing the concerns of residents and their families as well as those of carers and home managers, this book identifies how the generation of new knowledge through research can bring about real changes in care provision. This collection of papers will be an invaluable resource for students, care staff, care home managers, inspectors, lecturers and policy makers.

Tillfälligt slut
The Baboon and Mother of Apis Catacombs were cleared in the 1968/9 season and the 1969/70 and 1970/71 seasons respectively during the Egypt Exploration Society's excavation of the site now known as the Sacred Animal Necropolis at North Saqqara. These excavations were initiated by W. B. Emery and directed by him from 1964 until his death in Cairo in March 1971. Later in that year, the Society's Committee appointed H. S. Smith as Field Director and G. T. Martin as Site Director for the project. During the years 1971-6 fieldwork was completed by the Society as far as was deemed practicable. Work then started upon the formidable task of publishing the underground catacombs and surface structures discovered and the very large quantities of objects and documents found during the excavations. Two of the reports, on the Falcon Complex and Catacomb and the Main Temple Complex have since appeared. This volume by Sue Davies constitutes the final archaeological report on the cult installations accessed directly from the Main Temple Complex.
