This book presents selected and extended papers from the largest conference on artificial intelligence in Japan, which was expanded into an internationalized event for the first time in 2019: the 33rd Annual Conference of the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence (JSAI 2019), held on June 4–June 7, 2019 at TOKI MESSE in Niigata, Japan. 

The book’s content has been divided into six major sections, on (I) knowledge engineering, (II) agents, (III) education and culture, (IV) natural language processing, (V) machine learning and data mining, and (VI) cyber physics. 

Given its scope, the book offers a valuable reference guide for professionals, undergraduate and graduate students engaged in disciplines, fields, technologies, or philosophies relevant to AI, e.g., computer/data science, robotics, linguistics, and physics, introducing them to recent advances in this area and discussing the human society of tomorrow.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 25th International Conference on Principles and Practice of Multi-Agent Systems, PRIMA 2024, held in Kyoto, Japan, during November 18–24, 2024.

The 23 full papers and 10 short papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 76 submissions. They are organized in the following topical sections: coordination and cooperation; market approaches; logics; learning; agent-based modelling and simulation; computational social choice.

The book includes selectedrevised and extended papers from the 7th International Workshop on Agent-Based ComplexAutomated Negotiation (ACAN2014), which was held in Paris, France, in May2014. The book also includes brief introductions aboutAgent-based Complex Automated Negotiation which are based on tutorials providedin the workshop, and brief summaries and descriptions about the ANAC''14 (AutomatedNegotiating Agents Competition) competition, where authors of selectedfinalist agents explain the strategies and the ideas used by them. This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 14th International Conference on Practical Applications of Scalable Multi-agent Systems, PAAMS 2016, held in Sevilla, Spain, in June 2016.

The 9 revised full papers, 10 short papers, and 16 Demo papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 58 submissions (39 full paper and 19 Demo paper submissions. The papers report on the application and validation of agent-based models, methods, and technologies in a number of key application areas, including day life and real world, energy and networks, human and trust, markets and bids, models and tools, negotiation and conversation, scalability and resources. 

This book addresses several important aspects of complex automated negotiations and introduces a number of modern approaches for facilitating agents to conduct complex negotiations. It demonstrates that autonomous negotiation is one of the most important areas in the field of autonomous agents and multi-agent systems. Further, it presents complex automated negotiation scenarios that involve negotiation encounters that may have, for instance, a large number of agents, a large number of issues with strong interdependencies and/or real-time constraints.

Electronic Commerce technologies have been studied widely in the field of Economics and Informatics. In recent years, there are multiple aspects of researches in electronic commerce including supply chain model, Internet auctions, Internet volume discounts, electronic bank and stock trading, and several others. The increase of Electronic Commerce research activities can be observed in a variety of the fields. The aim of this book is to encourage activities in this field, and to bring researchers with an interest in Electronic Commerce. This book is edited from some aspects of e-commerce researches including theoretical mechanism design of trading based on auctions, allocation mechanism based on negotiation among multi-agent, case-study and analysis of e-trading, data engineering issues in e-commerce, and so on. The reason why the many aspects are included is to show the outline of the newest research result of e-commerce research.

Complex Automated Negotiations have been widely studied and are becoming an important, emerging area in the field of Autonomous Agents and Multi-Agent Systems. In general, automated negotiations can be complex, since there are a lot of factors that characterize such negotiations. These factors include the number of issues, dependency between issues, representation of utility, negotiation protocol, negotiation form (bilateral or multi-party), time constraints, etc. Software agents can support automation or simulation of such complex negotiations on the behalf of their owners, and can provide them with adequate bargaining strategies. In many multi-issue bargaining settings, negotiation becomes more than a zero-sum game, so bargaining agents have an incentive to cooperate in order to achieve efficient win-win agreements. Also, in a complex negotiation, there could be multiple issues that are interdependent. Thus, agent’s utility will become more complex than simple utility functions. Further, negotiation forms and protocols could be different between bilateral situations and multi-party situations. To realize such a complex automated negotiati on, we have to incorporate advanced Artificial Intelligence technologies includes search, CSP, graphical utility models, Bays nets, auctions, utility graphs, predicting and learning methods. Applications could include e-commerce tools, decisionmaking support tools, negotiation support tools, collaboration tools, etc.

These issues are explored by researchers from different communities in Autonomous Agents and Multi-Agent systems. They are, for instance, being studied in agent negotiation, multi-issue negotiations, auctions, mechanism design, electronic commerce, voting, secure protocols, matchmaking & brokering, argumentation, and co-operation mechanisms. This book is also edited from some aspects of negotiation researches including theoretical mechanism design of trading based on auctions, allocation mechanismbased on negotiation among multi-agent, case-study and analysis of automated negotiations, data engineering issues in negotiations, and so on.
