The 2007 winner of the Masing Book Prize sets out important Six Sigma concepts and a selection of up-to-date tools for quality improvement in industry. Six Sigma is a widely used methodology for measuring and improving an organization’s operational performance through a rigorous analysis of its practices and systems. This book presents a series of papers providing a systematic ‘roadmap’ for implementing Six Sigma, following the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control) phased approach. Motivated by actual problems, the authors offer insightful solutions to some of the most commonly encountered issues in Six Sigma projects, such as validation of normality, experimentation under constraints and statistical control of complex processes. They also include many examples and case studies to help readers learn how to apply the appropriate techniques to real-world problems.Key features: Provides a comprehensive introduction to Six Sigma, with a critical strategic assessment and a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis.Presents some prominent design features of Six Sigma, and a newly proposed roadmap for healthcare delivery.Sets out information on graphical tools, including fishbone diagrams, mind-maps, and reality trees.Gives a thorough treatment of process capability analysis for non-normal data.Discusses advanced tools for Six Sigma, such as statistical process control for autocorrelated data.Consolidating valuable methodologies for process optimization and quality improvement, Six Sigma: Advanced Tools for Black Belts and Master Black Belts is a unique reference for practising engineers in the electronics, defence, communications and energy industries. It is also useful for graduate students taking courses in quality assurance.

Control charts are widely used in industry to monitor processes that are far from Zero-Defect (ZD) and their use in a near Zero-Defect manufacturing environment poses many problems. This book presents techniques of using control charts for high-quality processes. Recent findings and applications of statistical control chart techniques for ZD processes are also discussed. A powerful technique based on counting of the cumulative conforming (CCC) items between two nonconforming ones is examined in detail. Extensions of the CCC chart are described, as well as applications of cumulative sum and exponentially weighted moving average techniques to CCC-related data, multivariate methods, economic design of control chart procedures and modelling and analysis of trended but regularly adjusted processes. Many examples, charts and procedures are presented throughout the book and references are provided for those interested in exploring the details. A number of questions and issues are posed for further investigations.Researches and students may find many ideas in this book useful in their academic work, as a foundation is laid for the exploration of many further theoretical and practical issues.

This book discusses the application of quality and reliability engineering in Asian industries, and offers information for multinational companies (MNC) looking to transfer some of their operation and manufacturing capabilities to Asia and at the same time maintain high levels of reliability and quality. It is also provides small and medium enterprises (SME) in Asia with insights into producing high-quality and reliable products. It mainly comprises peer-reviewed papers that were presented at the Asian Network for Quality (ANQ) Congress 2014 held in Singapore (August, 2014), which provides a platform for companies, especially those within Asia where rapid changes and growth in manufacturing are taking place, to present their quality and reliability practices. The book presents practical demonstrations of how quality and reliability methodologies can be modified for the unique Asian market, and as such is a valuable resource for students, academics, professionals and practitioners inthe field of quality and reliability.
