As environmental awareness grows around the world, people are learning that a diversity of species and the habitat to support them is necessary to maintain the ecological health of the earth. "That land is a community is the basic concept of ecology", wrote Aldo Leopold in 1933, "but that land is to be loved and respected is an extension of ethics".
