In this rapidly moving area, "Image Processing, Analysis and Machine Vision" gives details of the recent developments in the field, as well as up-to-date and comprehensive coverage of all aspects of the subject. Based on the original book published in Czech, this English edition has been considerably expanded to include 3D vision, neural networks and invariants. Further algorithms, diagrams and an up-to-date bibliography have been added to make this book useful reading for students and professionals involved in computer vision. This book should be of interest to undergraduates, graduate students and professionals.

This monograph explores the close relationship of various well-known pattern recognition problems that have so far been considered independent. These relationships became apparent with the discovery of formal procedures for addressing known problems and their generalisations. The generalised problem formulations were analysed mathematically and unified algorithms were found. The main scientific contribution of this book is the unification of two main streams in pattern recognition - statistical and structural. The material is presented in the form of ten lectures, each of which concludes with a discussion with a student.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 27th Conference on Current Trends in Theory and Practice of Informatics, SOFSEM 2000, held in Milovy, Czech Republic in November/December 2000. The 16 invited papers and 18 contributed papers selected from 36 submissions were carefully selected in order to provide representative coverage of the three tracks: trends in algorithms, information technologies and practice, and computational perception.

This book presents the proceedings of the Sixth International Conference on Computer Analysis of Images and Patterns, CAIP '95, held in Prague, Czech Republic in September 1995.The volume presents 61 full papers and 75 posters selected from a total of 262 submissions and thus gives a comprehensive view on the state-of-the-art in computer analysis of images and patterns, research, design, and advanced applications. The papers are organized in sections on invariants, segmentation and grouping, optical flow, model recovery and parameter estimation, low level vision, motion detection, structure and matching, active vision and shading, human face recognition, calibration, contour, and sessions on applications in diverse areas.

This monograph explores the close relationship of various well-known pattern recognition problems that have so far been considered independent. These relationships became apparent with the discovery of formal procedures for addressing known problems and their generalisations. The generalised problem formulations were analysed mathematically and unified algorithms were found. The main scientific contribution of this book is the unification of two main streams in pattern recognition - the statistical one and the structural one. The material is presented in the form of ten lectures, each of which concludes with a discussion with a student. It provides new views and numerous original results in their field. Written in an easily accessible style, it introduces the basic building blocks of pattern recognition, demonstrates the beauty and the pitfalls of scientific research, and encourages good habits in reading mathematical text.
