Der anläßlich des 75. Geburtstags von Gustav Ineichen herausgegebene Sammelband führt Beiträge von Schülern, Kollegen und Freunden diverser fachlicher Ausrichtung unter der Thematik des Sprachkontakts in der Romania zusammen. Der zeitliche Rahmen, in dem sich die Untersuchungen bewegen, erstreckt sich vom Mittelalter bis zu Fragen des aktuellen Sprachgeschehens. Räumlich spannen die Arbeiten einen Bogen, der sich von Italien über Frankreich auf die Iberische Halbinsel zieht. Darüber hinaus werden Verbindungen mit dem Orient und Sprachkontakte in der Neuen Romania miteinbezogen.
