This book introduces experiential knowledge of the intersectionality of disability, sexuality, and gender equality issues. Scholars and disabled persons’ organizations in different Asian countries such as China, Vietnam, Myanmar, Nepal, and Japan have contributed to the book. It is a preliminary introduction of the frontline practice of Asian disability activism and the experience of women and LGBTIQ people with disabilities. It presents the direct participation of disability advocates in mapping how both women with disabilities and LGBTIQ individuals with disabilities realize their rights such as identity, work rights, personal safety, and sexual rights. Studies presented here explore the experience of empowering diverse disability groups and advocating for equality and non-discrimination. It explains how to use the leverage of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) for further human rights campaigns in a broader context for disadvantaged groups. This collection is the product of a participatory research project, which aims to increase the capabilities of local disabled persons’ organizations and NGOs in utilizing human rights laws and encourage dialogue and collaboration between academia, people with disabilities, and human rights advocates. It will be essential reading for academics, researchers, policy-makers, and campaign groups.

Fast Multipole Boundary Element Method
Theory and Applications in Engineering
Inbunden, Engelska, 2009

The fast multipole method is one of the most important algorithms in computing developed in the 20th century. Along with the fast multipole method, the boundary element method (BEM) has also emerged as a powerful method for modeling large-scale problems. BEM models with millions of unknowns on the boundary can now be solved on desktop computers using the fast multipole BEM. This is the first book on the fast multipole BEM, which brings together the classical theories in BEM formulations and the recent development of the fast multipole method. Two- and three-dimensional potential, elastostatic, Stokes flow, and acoustic wave problems are covered, supplemented with exercise problems and computer source codes. Applications in modeling nanocomposite materials, bio-materials, fuel cells, acoustic waves, and image-based simulations are demonstrated to show the potential of the fast multipole BEM. Enables students, researchers, and engineers to learn the BEM and fast multipole method from a single source.

Finite Element Modeling and Simulation with ANSYS Workbench 18, Second Edition, combines finite element theory with real-world practice. Providing an introduction to finite element modeling and analysis for those with no prior experience, and written by authors with a combined experience of 30 years teaching the subject, this text presents FEM formulations integrated with relevant hands-on instructions for using ANSYS Workbench 18. Incorporating the basic theories of FEA, simulation case studies, and the use of ANSYS Workbench in the modeling of engineering problems, the book also establishes the finite element method as a powerful numerical tool in engineering design and analysis.Features Uses ANSYS Workbench™ 18, which integrates the ANSYS SpaceClaim Direct Modeler™ into common simulation workflows for ease of use and rapid geometry manipulation, as the FEA environment, with full-color screen shots and diagrams. Covers fundamental concepts and practical knowledge of finite element modeling and simulation, with full-color graphics throughout. Contains numerous simulation case studies, demonstrated in a step-by-step fashion. Includes web-based simulation files for ANSYS Workbench 18 examples. Provides analyses of trusses, beams, frames, plane stress and strain problems, plates and shells, 3-D design components, and assembly structures, as well as analyses of thermal and fluid problems.

We are currently witnessing a proliferation in parallel and distributed processing technologies and applications. However, more new technologies have ushered in unprecented challenges to the research community across the range of high-performance computing, multi-core microprocessor architecture, networks and pervasive computing, as well as new paradigm computing issues. APPT 2007 was sponsored by the China Computer Federation, in cooperation with TCPP of the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The highly positive responses to the previous APPT workshops encouraged us to continue this international event. This year, APPT was upgraded to the International Symposium on Advanced Parallel Processing Technologies. However, it kept its traditional flavor by sharing of the underlying theories and applications, and the establishment of new and long-term collaborative channels. And it will continue to provide a forum for researchers, professionals, and industrial practitioners from around the world to report on new advances in high-performance architecture and software, as well as to identify issues and directions for research and development in the new era of evolving technologies. The success of APPT 2007 was a result of the hard work and planning of a large group of renowned researchers from around the world, who served on the Technical Program Committee and the Organizing Committee. Their invaluable efforts in developing this technical program are most gratefully acknowledged. In particular, we would like to thank the Program Co-chairs, Xin Chen, Xuejun Yang, and Albert Y. Zomaya.
