Born Red is an artistically wrought personal account, written very much from inside the experience, of the years 1966-1969, when the author was a young teenager at middle school. It was in the middle schools that much of the fury of the Cultural Revolution and Red Guard movement was spent, and Gao was caught up in very dramatic events, which he recounts as he understood them at the time. Gao's father was a county political official who was in and out of trouble during those years, and the intense interplay between father and son and the differing perceptions and impact of the Cultural Revolution for the two generations provide both an unusual perspective and some extraordinary moving moments. He also makes deft use of traditional mythology and proverbial wisdom to link, sometimes ironically, past and present. Gao relates in vivid fashion how students-turned-Red Guards held mass rallies against 'capitalist roader' teachers and administrators, marching them through the streets to the accompaniment of chants and jeers and driving some of them to suicide. Eventually the students divided into two factions, and school and town became armed camps. Gao tells of the exhilaration that he and his comrades experienced at their initial victories, of their deepening disillusionment as they utter defeat as the tumultuous first phase of the Cultural Revolution came to a close. The portraits of the persons to whom Gao introduces us - classmates, teachers, family members - gain weight and density as the story unfolds, so that in the end we see how they all became victims of the dynamics of a mass movement out of control.

The 14th International Conference on Developments in Language Theory (DLT 2010) was held in London, Ontario, Canada on the beautiful campus of the University of Western Ontario. It was a four-day conference starting August 17 and ending August 20, 2010. The DLT conference series is one of the major international conference series in language theory. It started in Turku, Finland in 1993. Initially, it was held onceeverytwoyears. Since2001,ithasbeenheldeveryyear,oddyearsinEurope and even years in other continents. The papers submitted to DLT 2010 were from 27 countries all over the world, which include Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, India, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Moldova, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Russian Federation, S- vakia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Tunisia, UK, and the USA. Each paper was reviewed by three referees and discussed by the members of the Program C- mittee. Finally, 32 regular papers were selected by the Program Committee for presentation at the conference. There were six invited talks given at the c- ference.They were given by (in alphabetic order) Dora Giammarresi (Rome), MarkusHolzer (Giessen), OscarIbarra(Santa Barbara),Lila Kari(London,- tario), Michel Rigo (Liege), and Grzegorz Rozenber (Leiden). In addition, there were six posters on display at the conference. This volume includes all the 32 contributed papers, the papers or abstracts from the 6 invited speakers, and a 2-page abstract for each of the 6 poster papers. Wewarmlythankalltheinvitedspeakersandalltheauthorsofthesubmitted papers. Their e?orts were the bases of the success of the conference.

Furthermore, some new ideas are presented in this book, for example, a method to solve the transition matrix by difference operator transformation. For this method, the book gives the definition of Fourier integral transformation of translation operator, and proves the transition matrix equaling to the differential operator transformation, so that it is extended to general situations of explicit, implicit, multi-layer difference equations, etc. This flexible approach is also used in the differential part. In addition, the book also includes six types of equivalent stability definitions in two ways and deeply analyzes their errors, stabilities and convergences of the difference equations. What is more important, some new scientific contributions on lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) in recent years are presented in the book as well. The authors write the book combining their ten years teaching experience and research results and this book is intended for graduate students who are interested in the area of computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Authors list some new research achievements, such as simplified lattice Boltzmann method, the simplified lattice Boltzmann flux solver and discrete unified gas kinetic scheme, and expect that this new information could give readers possible further investigating ideas in their future research on CFD area.
