With the world population growth, food demand grows. Aquatic foods provide high quality protein, essential for human health. It is clearly visible that the production of aquatic organisms using aquaculture will have to increase, to the extent that the fishery productivity holds steady over the past few years, even increasing fishing effort. The total production of aquatic organisms by-catch (including fish, molluscs, crustaceans, etc.) represents 83.5 million tonnes in the year 2014, with a stable production for some years. On the other hand, aquaculture has grown enough in recent years. In the year 2006 the total output of aquatic organisms through cultivation was approximately 45 million tonnes in 2014 the production over 73 million tones. Since the establishment and technical domain about reproduction and hatchery of marine fish, has begun a process of genetic improvement, as the best individuals were selected for mating and reproduction in search of the best possible offspring. According to Dunham et al. (2000), breeding programs began in the 1960s. Molecular-based knowledge emerged in the 1980s and has continued to gain momentum. Efforts are now well established in traditional selective breeding, biotechnology and molecular genetics of finfish, and are rapidly developing for aquatic invertebrate domestication.Genetic improvement is the theory that aims to find the animals that produce the best offspring generation after generation, increasing the population average to some trait. The main objectives of the breeding programs are: increase animal health and increase productivity and product quality. However, on aquaculture, breeding programs are not common, and in many species the production is based only on the capture of wild animals. This can be explained, primarily because of the complexity of the reproductive cycle; the rapid increase of inbreeding in breeding stocks; and the few knowledge of the theory of genetic improvement for researchers, educators, etc. In addition to all this, the breeding programs of aquatic organisms face severe problems compared to terrestrial animals. The genetic improvement for aquatic organisms really is a challenging path ahead of us, for that we shall seek to carry out research to help this area to develop, benefiting the entire aquaculture chain.

Billions of spots of tiny genetic code comprise the human genome. It was DNA sequencing technology that had revolutionized genomic research by decoding the valuable genetic information by giving the picture of an exact order of occurrence of nucleotides in a DNA. The inception of first-generation sequencing method, also called Sanger sequencing took place in 1975. The first major breakthrough of first-generation sequencing comes, when the 13 year log Human Genome Project (HGP) was completed in 2003 at a cost $3 million. With ever increasing demands of researchers and clinicians, complex genomic research require a depth of information which is however beyond the capacity of traditional DNA sequencing technologies. These research questions gaps are very well addressed by Next-generation sequencing (NGS) has filled that gap of cheaper as well as faster sequencing technology. It is just a decade old technology, but it has popularize the next-generation sequencing to high-throughput sequencing hat allow millions to trillions of observations to be made in parallel during a single instrument run. Since the introduction of these technologies, the number of applications and methods that influence the power of genome-scale sequencing has increased exponentially. Although in genome research NGS has mostly superseded conventional Sanger sequencing, it has not yet translated into routine clinical practice. The following chapter will highlight the concepts, technologies, and methods of next-generation sequencing to illustrate the breadth and depth of the applications and research areas that are driving progress in genomics.

After the collapse of Soviet Union and its Marxist-Leninist economic and political model of development the Washington consensus inspired model of economic and political development popularly known as Globalization became the new mantra , the panacea to cure all societal ills, and the only option to raise global humanity from poverty, ill health, and political oppression. There is no doubt that it lifted hundreds of millions of people out of poverty, however its many gains were not equally or even near equally distributed. Economic inequality, human rights suffered specially in China and several countries in Eastern Europe, environmental degradation, unemployment, unregulated and unbridled dominance by multinationals (mostly Western , Americans ) brought about unprecedented economic crisis and social fragmentation. These developments raised serious doubts and questions about the viability of globalization model. The "discontent with globalization" forced academics and policymakers to reevaluate other alternatives. The present anthology discusses some of these issues in a comparative context by presenting alternative models to Western unregulated free market Globalization model.

Close to 77 million people lost their lives due to both world wars. Compare this with 30 million to 100 million loss of lives due to the Spanish flu epidemic. While epidemics are sudden outbreaks over one area, pandemics affect diseases across borders. According to research, epidemics not only target health but also socioeconomic systems. These factors coupled with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that has brought the world to a standstill several times make this book most timely. This book presents insights as to the current epidemic threats along with many diseases that are "neglected". A section has also been included on how healthcare providers: doctors and nurses are affected during such epidemics. Further, a chapter on the fear and stigma associated with such epidemic diseases has also been covered. This becomes relevant given and is also one of the unique aspects of the book given that the stigma associated with many diseases is more damaging than the disease!
