Scandinavian Design in the Doll's House takes the reader through the changing trends in Scandinavian interior design 1950-2000, in miniature. It was in Scandinavia modernist design came to interest toy makers on a considerable scale and this unique production of dolls houses and dolls house furniture in modern style is prized both by collectors and by children at play. The book captures the Nordic way of life that has influenced interior design throughout the world. Childlike in some ways, voyeuristic in others, this book is a must for anyone who loves modernist design.

RE:FORM is the book on Swedish crafts for the 21st century. It is a book that takes the pulse of crafts in Sweden today with its focus on the rising generation. Nine authors ranging from art and design historians, economists and journalists to designers and artists give their views about the state of Swedish crafts, about how they can find a new platform in the constantly shifting world of art and design.

This book is about adapting the world of things to humans. It is also the first study of successful Swedish design- and development firm Ergonomidesign. Featuring essays, interviews and case stories, this beautifully illustrated volume puts Ergonomidesign's achievements in a societal perspective, that goes way beyond bad backs and ugly office chairs. The case studies document research methods and the development of new design solutions which are based on users' needs. The interviews offer insights into the thought processes of the designers, and the essays provide a critical vision of ergonomic design in today's world. This group of designers has an impressive record of creating best-selling object which are functional, inclusive, sustainable - and sometimes even fashionable.

Nordic interior design has long been celebrated for its clean aestethic, craftsmanship and empathy for human experience. Nordic Designers tracks down this heritage in the most prominent industrial, interior and product designers of the uprising 21st Century. Today, the tradition has taken on forms such as the idea of democratic design and the burgeoning of ecological consciousness. But author David Sokol has also uncovered other, and new, trends in the region. With young star constellations such as Front, intellectual conceit and con ceptuality have taken the upper hand over form-making. In informal interviews with 59 of the region's best known designers, such as Ilkka Suppanen, Claesson Koivisto Rune, and Monica Förster, David Sokol explores the motives and stories of each designer. Hereby he paints a colorful picture of the importance of sustainable design, the questions of local versus global affinity, and the future of Nordic identity.

Norway Calling, the book of contemporary Norwegian design, is a kind of answer to the question of why Norwegian design is arousing such pleasure and curiosity today the world over. It is the first book to mirror the exciting northern trend, introducing some of the principal figures and some of their most important projects - an excellent opportunity for design-lovers to acquaint themselves with the vigorous development of Norwegian design after such titans as Sverre Fehn, Grete Prytz Kittelsen and Arne Korsmo. After years of silence there proved to be a new, living world of Norwegian design. Now widley known designers and architects such as Snøhetta, Daniel Rybakken, Norway Says and Arne & Carlos bare witness to this forceful trend.

This selection shows the foremost achievements of Swedish wooden architecture in the past four years. They comprise a cowshed, a riding school, an apartment block, a single-family housing development, an exhibition gallery, a school, three detached houses and two weekend cottages. Buildings differing in size, type and use, but with the common denominator of all confirming to a high architectural standard with wood playing a decisive part. Architecture in Wood is profusely illustrated by photographer Åke E:son Lindman. The descriptions and drawings are by the architects themselves. A beautiful and finely crafted work of documentation, in equal measure informative and inspiring.

Can the visual identity of a country be seen in the graphic design it produces? Nordic Graphic Designers asks the question and gives a diverse answer. Although the collection of designers presented in the book displays some general features, the flood of graphic products today have made individuality in style and concept indispensable. This is the fascinating paradox of globalism. In interviews with the participating designers, similarities and diversities become clear. Works of established titans such as Kari Piippo stand side by side with pioneering stars Bleed and Acne, which might hint at a change of generations. This is the third part of a series on Scandinavian architecture and design from Arvinius Förlag, the others being Nordic Architects and Nordic Designers.

It includes sketches, renderings, models and exhibition work, as well as a unique insight to Monica Förster's thoughts and design processes. We also follow Monica Förster on her journey from the upbringing in the small village of Dorotea in Lappland to the limelight of the international design scene, bringing with her the poetry and craftsmanship from the region where she grew up.

In spring 2011 Norwegian Snøhetta was chosen as the worlds most innovative architect office by the American magazine Fast Company. The interest for architects and designers from Norway continues to grow. Exhibition projects such as 100% Norway have consolidated the countrys position as a design nation that is making great progress. In this book, Design By Nature a sequel to Norway Calling (2008) Staffan Bengtsson considers the Norwegian design worlds new and different relation to landscape and nature. Today mountains and fjords are not purely magnificent visual scenery but also part of a design process that perhaps ultimately is concerned with mans future on the planet.

From the boost of the first cup of coffee in the morning to the glow of a nightlight that keeps a child company in the dark, much of our contemporary lifestyle is powered by electricity. Today, however, the economic and environmental costs of energy require us to think again. While recognising the complex social functions and cultural forms of electricity in everyday life, the current challenge for design is to change practicies and patterns of (over) consumtion. Static! explores design as a basic for increasing awareness of energy. Familiar furnishings and products have been reinterpreted to materialize electricity, to make it more visible and tangible for people. The resulting series of conceptual design examples express the poetics and politics of every-day electricity consumption. This book presents the Static! design examples and perspectives on issues in (sustain-able) design today. Grounded in passion and humor, as well as rigor and research, the book asks designers and consumers that is, all of us to rethink the form, and future, of electricity in the world around us.

During the 1950's "Scandinavian Design" or "Scandinavian Modern" became a "must" in modern homes, both European and American. The launching of the concept was a pan-Nordic campaign, including a number of big and successful exhibitions, touring the world. And the establishment was the result of an intense cultural and commercial effort, promoted by both Scandinavian and American curators, museums and media. The fascinating story of this success has not been written in a book before - but here it is.In the book the icons of "Modern Scandinavian" is shown, along with interpretations by young designers from the Nordic countries. The texts are written by Scandinavian design historians as well as experts from USA, Germany and Great Britain.

Karen Bit Vejle uses her pair of scissors as her brush when she creates her beautiful images of art in paper. The art of psaligraphy is thousands of years old, with master artists in China and other areas of Far East. This particular form of art hit Europe with the wave of Eastern influence in the 17th century and forward. Bit is of Danish origin living in Norway for many years. The Danish tradition of clipping images in paper is particularly strong in Scandinavia, and Bit has mastered the art since she was a young girl. The last couple of years her art has been appreciated in many exhibitions throughout several countries. The Norwegian art historian and museum director Jan-Lauritz Opstad has written the fascinating story of Bit's life and work.
