An oversized, slipcase-housed, art book edition of A WONDER BOOK, Nathaniel Hawthorne's collection of adapted Greek myths, now illustrated with a suite of paintings from the renowned Spanish artist Das Pastoras and an introduction from Academy Award winning filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro. In the summer of 1851, directly off the success of The Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne decided to update a series of classical myths for a young contemporary audience — to remove their “cold touch of marble” and bring them into the modern era. The book became an instant classic, paving the way for the success of fairy tales and legends for young readers throughout the 19th century and beyond. Das Pastoras, the poetic and painterly Galician visual artist, brings his vivid and fantastical vision to these larger than life tales, presented with more drama and thunder than ever before. Original essays from Guillermo Del Toro, Jose Villarubia and Kate Bernheimer explore the many meanings and visions contained within. A stunning new entry in Beehive Books award-winning Illuminated Editions series, this volume is housed in a shimmering die-cut sculpturally embossed slipcase, printed on uncoated acid-free paper, and published in an oversized 9x12" trim format.

An oversized, slipcased art-book edition of GULLIVER'S TRAVELS — Jonathan Swift's fantastical travelogue and savage satire of human folly and imperialist pretension — newly illustrated by the celebrated Italian artist Lorenzo Mattotti, with original essays from author and comedian Patton Oswalt and scholar Elizabeth Bellamy.A surgeon turned castaway, Lemuel Gulliver sails into the absurd and the sublime. Shipwrecked among the six-inch citizens of Lilliput, he watches an empire wage war over which end of an egg to crack. Cowering beneath the Brobdingnagians, he becomes a curiosity, his proud account of England met with disgust. He debates the useless philosophers of the airborne island of Laputa, then recoils from the brutish Yahoos who share a country with the Houyhnhnms — horses more rational than men. Each voyage peels back the illusion of civilization, exposing the hypocrisy, pride, and foolishness in human nature and the constructions of society. What looks like an adventure tale is an x-ray of the pomposity of enlightenment European culture, and of humankind itself.Mattotti renders Gulliver's journey across more than sixty-five illustrations animated by wonder and strangeness — Lilliput and Brobdingnag rendered not as curiosities but as genuinely disorienting places, beautiful and unmoored. A new entry in Beehive Books' Illuminated Editions series, this volume is printed on uncoated acid-free paper in an oversized 9×12″ trim and housed in a die-cut, sculpturally embossed slipcase.

An oversized, slipcase-housed art book edition of THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ, L. Frank Baum's timeless, peculiar American fairy tale. A fine edition illustrated by New Yorker cover artist David Plunkert, and featuring an original introduction from Hugo, Nebula and Macarthur "Genius" Grant-winning author Kelly Link, and an essay by Gore Vidal. Published in the first months of the 20th century, Baum's masterpiece launched a series of forty books, a hit stage play, a comic series, and a number of movies from the 1939 classic that has often been called the greatest American film, to the ongoing hit WICKED series. This elaborately illustrated edition of the book that launched a vast kingdom of wonder builds upon all that made the Oz books singular -- the odd, cracked humor, social satire, childlike enchantment, and strange dark undercurrents of Baum's voice as a storyteller. Plunkert's singular illustrations reimagine Oz as a otherworldly makeshift dreamscape, while Kelly Link's essay explores its place in contemporary fiction, and Gore Vidal explores Oz as a defining piece of American mythmaking. A stunning new entry in Beehive Books award-winning Illuminated Editions series, this volume is housed in a shimmering die-cut sculpturally embossed slipcase, printed on uncoated acid-free paper, and published in an oversized 9x12" trim format.

Discover the poignant and powerful voice of a forgotten Victorian poet in The (Mostly) Complete Poems of Elizabeth Eleanor Siddal. This beautifully produced hardback volume is the first popular edition to bring together all fifteen known, complete poems of Siddal (1829-1862), a significant figure in the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood who never saw her work published during her lifetime.Elizabeth Siddal was a multifaceted creative — a Renaissance woman trapped in the long shadow of Queen Victoria. In the field of painting, she enjoyed considerable success, as one of the Pre-Raphaelites, acquiring the patronage of England’s foremost art critic, John Ruskin, who dubbed her a genius and paid her a fortune for the right of first refusal to buy her new works. But her poetry career was ended before it had a chance to begin, cut short by her death from an overdose of laudanum at the age of 32, leaving behind a maelstrom of papers dubbed “too hopelessly sad for publication”. Her work languished for a century and a half before slowly being recognized as sophisticated, majestic, powerful and anything but too hopelessly sad for publication. Collected here for the first time in a widely available popular reading edition are all 15 of Siddal’s known poems presented in a beautiful volume that does justice to her memory and her talent. This is a companion volume for “This is Only Earth, My Dear: Images by Trillian Stars and Kyle Cassidy with poems by Elizabeth Eleanor Siddal.”
