Moving from the classroom to the field is often a daunting transition for social work students. In this new edition of their celebrated text, Kelly Ward, Robin Sakina Mama, and Natalie Moore-Bembry address student fears and concerns with a straightforward, adventure-based instruction method. Using interactive exercises to integrate cross-curricula content, Breaking Out of the Box, Fifth Edition, encourages students to gain perspective and insight as they navigate field placement and their growing careers.Previous editions of Breaking Out of the Box have been commended for their direct and honest approach to a wide array of concerns shared by social workers and students. The fifth edition returns to this mission with an increased focus on diversity through rituals and a new chapter on cultural competence, new coverage of AI's impact on writing and a continued emphasis on ethics and human rights.

This book describes the essentials of a mathematical description of the dynamics of biochemical networks. It covers both deterministic and stochastic aspects of the dynamics. After providing a brief introduction to basic molecular biology, the book describes fundamentals of chemical kinetics. The chapter on signal transduction makes contact with ideas from feedback circuit analysis and signal processing. The chapter on switches and oscillators analyses in detail biological examples, both natural and synthetic. Excitable systems are introduced and contrasted with oscillators. The last chapter deals with pattern formation and development and brings us to current questions of robustness of performance of developmental networks. The book provides brief introductions to some of the mathematical tools required in the main text and in a dedicated appendix. The emphasis, throughout, is on understanding of the essential dynamical aspects rather than just on recipes to build complex models.

Singapore provides parties with a full suite of dispute resolution services: arbitration, litigation, and mediation. This book is the first of its kind to offer a full-service guide to international dispute resolution in Singapore.

If Lauterpacht, writing back in 1950, warned about the changing landscape of the law of immunities due to the increased activities of the state in the economic sphere, English courts have never been so busy with regards to the enforcement of foreign arbitral awards against sovereign states today. As foreign direct investment grows, so too does the number of disputes between states and investors. Increasingly these disputes are resolved by international arbitration proceedings but once resolved, the enforcement of awards against states brings its own challenges. Whilst enforcement of arbitral awards should be 'almost a matter of administrative procedure' (to use the language of PetroChina International (Hong Kong) Corp Ltd [2011]), immunities remain to some, a 'hurdle', adding complexity to that process. This book gives the reader the key to understanding the principles governing such a notion in the context of enforcement of arbitral awards. This is the first systematic treatment of the jurisprudence relating to award enforcement against foreign states in England. It provides comprehensive examination of the principles and case-law relating to state immunity in the context of enforcement of international arbitral awards before English courts. It addresses questions such as: What are the principles governing the enforcement of international awards against sovereigns in England? How does the distinction between jurisdictional immunity and enforcement immunity operate in this context? What are the precise contours of such legal notions when they are put into motion by means of procedure? What is the practice of English courts in that regard? This book also covers the complexities arising from enforcement proceedings in other jurisdictions and their relation to proceedings in England. Authored by an expert with unique insight into immunities both as a practising barrister and as an academic, this is an essential resource for anyone interested or involved in enforcement proceedings during which state immunity is invoked.

Third party funding (TPF), where specialist companies help finance a client's legal fees in exchange for a share of the final award, is becoming increasingly prevalent in international arbitration. This work provides a comprehensive practitioner guide to the law and practice of international arbitration where third party funding is involved, with detailed reference to existing cases, procedural orders, and final awards. The book is comprised of five parts, together covering the life cycle of a funder's involvement in an arbitration: background, case assessment, key terms of the funding agreement, the conduct of the arbitration, and the award. The authors include references to relevant landmark decisions of national courts addressing third-party funding issues in arbitrations, and an appendix provides a list of all known funded investor-state cases, with comprehensive details about the identity of the funder, the dispute, the duration, the cost, and the result. As the discussion of TPF in arbitration continues to be of vital importance in the field, it is imperative that all international arbitration practitioners have access to a balanced, multi-faceted view of the practice and its issues. This book provides much-needed guidance suitable for all practioners and students.
