Hur kan man bedriva undervisning i förskolan på ett sätt som inte står i motsats till, eller utesluter, lek? Att arbeta lekresponsivt innebär att fokusera på och utveckla kommunikationen mellan barn och vuxna, att vuxna leker tillsammans med barn och därmed bidrar till att stimulera både fantasin och förhållandet till omvärlden. Särskilt lek där barn och vuxna deltar gemensamt är ett omdebatterat tema i tidigare forskning och barnpedagogiska diskussioner. I denna bok diskuteras flera av de föreställningar som förekommer och författarna visar på de mångfacetterade möjligheter som finns i och genom lek.Boken är i första hand avsedd för studenter på förskollärarutbildningen och olika personalgrupper i förskolan såsom rektorer, utvecklingsledare och specialpedagoger. Boken kan också vara användbar för andra som arbetar med barn i olika sammanhang, såsom lärare i fritidshem, skola och föreningsliv. Författare är Cecilia Wallerstedt och Niklas Pramling, båda professorer i pedagogik vid Utbildningsvetenskapliga fakulteten vid Göteborgs universitet.

Den bottnar i aktuell forskning om den riskfyllda leken och den vänder sig till pedagoger och lärare i såväl förskola som skola och fritidshem. Boken innehåller reflektionsfrågor för att stödja kollegiala samtal i t ex bokcirkel.

Barn behöver testa vad de kan för att förstå vad de behöver öva på

I en värld som drivs av rädsla, tenderar vi att överbeskydda våra barn. Forskning visar att det kan få förödande konsekvenser. Barn utforskar världen genom lek. Ett viktigt element är oförutsägbarheten och mycket av leken handlar om att prova nya saker och överskrida gränser. Barn behöver få testa sina förmågor för att förstå vad de kan nu och vad de behöver lära sig och öva på. Om de inte får uppleva var gränsen går kan de inte utveckla en sund känsla av att ta hand om sig själva.  

Hur designar vi miljöer som är så trygga som nödvändigt, i stället för så trygga som möjligt?

Inom förskolan och skolan ska vi inte enbart skapa trygga miljöer, utan även modiga miljöer som utmanar och utvecklar barnen. Boken visar att riskfylld lek inte behöver vara farlig. Lek och lärande är inte heller motsatser. De förstärker varandra. Även om vi vuxna har olika värderingar och övertygelser så är det bra att vi börjar prata om värdet av den riskfyllda leken och undervisningen. Är den riskfyllda leken till och med grundläggande för barnens utveckling?

Se krigsleken ur nya perspektiv   

Barn leker krig. Vi vuxna förfäras ofta och vill inte se krigsleken eller så försöker vi totalförbjuda krigslekar så fort de ger sig till känna på förskolan eller skolan. Men vad händer om vi verkligen ser på krigsleken redan i förskolan och de första åren i skolan? Hur kan vi lära oss mer om hur vi kan bemöta den och om vilka uttryck den tar i vår tid?

Teaching Through Embodied Learning positions drama as an under-utilised but valuable tool for enhancing the learning of information in primary science texts. Creating a ‘tableau’ is an established drama practice for exploring key moments in fiction texts and historical events but less frequently applied with non-fiction texts. Based on doctoral research that studied the impact of having students create a tableau in response to reading informational texts about the solar system, it presents the idea that using drama with informational texts causes students to read purposefully and respond aesthetically; thus, positively impacting reading behaviour, comprehension and social behaviour.

The book addresses the neglect of the body in learning and positions this against a narrow curriculum that is focused on print and ‘seated learning’. Within a current context, it acknowledges increasing concerns by educational leaders and academics of the need for a ‘broad and balanced curriculum’ and pedagogical practice. In support of these concerns, the book places tableau as an embodied learning mode that broadens curriculum experience and discusses recent research that highlights the role of drama and the body in enhancing cognition.

Dynamic Play and Creative Movement offers effective and accessible methods to supplement elementary education for young children using dance, movement, and play.
