​Amita Singh is President of NDRG, an Asia Pacific (NAPSIPAG) Disaster Research Group, a Senior Professorial Fellow at the Institute of Social Sciences, New Delhi and Senior Distinguished Visiting Professor at the National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata. She superannuated from the Centre for the Study of Law and Governance at Jawaharlal Nehru University in 2020 where she has also been the Founder Chairperson of the Special Centre for Disaster Research. She is member of the International Network for Disaster Studies and serves on the Board of many key international journals on disaster studies. Prof. Singh is trained in Political Science, Public Administration and Law (MA, LLB. PhD). She is widely known for her grassroot transdisciplinary governance research with research collaborations spanning through many universities and government departments in India, South Asia, USA and Australia. Her work on implementation studies and best practices in community initiatives started in 2006 at the Hawke Centre of the University of South Australia, Adelaide. She further collaborated with the Global Innovators Network, at the Kennedy School, Harvard University and IT for Women Initiative at Maryland University Baltimore (2004-2006). She has been awarded the Australia-India Council (2006) and Australian Government-Monash Fellowship(2016). In 2016-2017 she was Visiting Professor at the American University at Washington DC. She has also served as a member of the Jury and Advisory Board of UNESCO-Netexplo International University at Paris and has presented her study of NGO led best practices at the UN General Assembly. She has supervised a large number of PhD students who adorn prestigious positions in academics and in administration. She has authored and edited many books and several national and international research papers besides being the ‘Series Editor’ for Palgrave-Macmillan’s ‘Global South Series on Disaster Management’ with five books in a row. She has authored some important fact finding reports ( Uttarakhand 2013 & Kerala 2018) on her collaborative empirical research related to disasters and administrative preparedness. These reports have served as lighthouses to policy makers and judiciary. As an advocate of animals and environment she has shared her experience in some daily newspapers such as the Deccan Herald, Hindustan Times and The Daily Guardian (Columnist).Her contribution to community research has been duly acknowledged in the awards bestowed upon her ie; Delhi’s ‘Public Service Award’, NALSA’s ‘Social Justice Award’, ‘Millennium Award for Women in Public Services’ and ‘e-Governance Award’. She also received the 2014 Bangladesh's National Award ‘Nawab Bahadur Syed Nawab Ali Chowdhury National Award’  in Dhaka. Prof. Singh is an ardent campaigner for habitat protection and rights of all species to share planet earth justifiably without violence.
