While previous research in educational administration has focused on how to combat students' tardiness, absenteeism, and disciplinary problems, only a few studies have focused on teachers' withdrawal behaviors, such as absenteeism and the intent to leave. This book takes a unique organizational approach towards understanding the concept of ethics in educational systems. It provides a global perspective and connects theory and praxis through team-based simulations, case studies and scenarios. It also allows researchers, educators and teachers, and educational leaders and administrators around the world to understand how they can develop an ethical culture in their schools. This understanding can encourage the developmentand assimilation of a code of ethics for teachers and educators and the creation of a policy of intervention that can help to minimize teachers' withdrawal behaviors. In this way, the author presents an integrative approach towards creating a positive learning environment for teachers and students.

This book investigates how governance at different levels can improve access to education for excluded communities. It conceptualises turbulence, empowerment, and marginalisation in international educational governance systems, and presents a comparative analysis of five nation states (England, Arabs in Israel, Northern Ireland, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United States). From these carefully-selected case studies, readers are shown how Senior Level Leaders describe turbulence in their systems - and how they articulate both the kind of support they want, and the support they actually get at the infrastructural, resources and agency level. It shows how the Senior Leaders hope to put their track records in school improvement into action in order to mobilise school communities for Empowering Young Societal Innovators for Equity and Renewal. Based on research that is world leading in terms of originality, significance, and rigour, Turbulence, Empowerment and Marginalisation in International Education Governance Systems is both a comprehensive investigation of the question of how systems empower key agents of change in school communities, and a practical guide to how these communities can become societal innovators for equity, peace and renewal.

Past research has identified a wide variety of emotions and emotional engagements among school leaders and teachers including passion, excitement and satisfaction. However, the literature often centers on negative emotions of school leaders, such as fear of failure, anxiety and disillusionment with the system. Thus far, most research on this issue has focused almost entirely on western educational systems. This book departs from that and highlights the connection between culture and emotion management in these settings, and allows researchers from different parts of the world to demonstrate how national and local culture influence the way educational leaders and teachers express their feelings, display their emotion, or suppress emotion in public.Emotion Management in Teaching and Education Leadership allows teachers and educational leaders from both traditional and marginalized societies to tell their own stories of feelings, emotion management, and emotion regulation at work. By expanding our knowledge beyond the cultural boundaries of Anglo-American nations and evoking new considerations in the research on emotion in organizations, this book will prove invaluable for researchers and school leaders.

Global Migration has changed the practice of educational leaders, policy makers, students, teachers and community members. This book traces this worldwide shift through research-based chapters that touch on both local idiosyncrasies and dynamics common across many contexts.Education, Immigration and Migration identifies issues educational leaders face as they seek to lead schools and school systems experiencing immigration and better understand their current strategies for improvement. The chapters shed light on the poorly understood relationship between educational leadership and refugee populations by giving a deeper appreciation of the scope and nature of issues at local, national and transnational levels. Each chapter offers new ways in which practitioners, policy-makers and scholars can think about complex dilemmas such as the implementation of equitable and democratic values, and difficulties involved in adapting organization and culture. Given its cross-national interdisciplinary approach, this book will prove invaluable for educational leaders, scholars and policymakers alike.

The macro-societal events against social injustice that have occurred recently have brought increasing attention to the problems of inequality in society. Specifically, social movements and events such as the Black Lives Matter and Stop Asian Hate, the Supreme Court’s ruling against the legality of employment discrimination against the LGBT population, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the growing diversity of the workforce serve as impetus for more diverse and engaging work contexts. Within the field of education, racial diversity issues such as the paucity of educators of color in the field, workload disparity workload across teacher demographics, the handling of student discipline and employment discrimination have been frequently noted as warranting attention to create more diverse and inclusive workspaces. The first of two volumes, Leadership in Turbulent Times draws upon cutting edge theories and evidence-based strategies by integrating conceptual and empirical work addressing educational leadership in these unprecedented and turbulent times, with a particular focus on the P-12 education workplace.Moving theory and practice towards real change, Leadership in Turbulent Times is a timely contribution towards the goal of providing resources for promoting diversity and inclusion to leaders, educators, researchers and policymakers within the field of Education.

As the record number of forcibly-displaced persons in the world continues to rise, more people of differing origins are sharing space and learning to live together. Prolonged displacement has turned into permanent resettlement and citizenship. To reflect this geopolitical transformation, education too must transform. Beyond Refuge explores abstractions, practicalities, impediments, and assets proffered by research participants to illustrate what an educational transformation should and could look like via a theoretical framework for emancipatory education of forcibly-displaced youth.Interviews, focus groups, and participant observations gather data from participants across local, state, national, and international levels of educational influence, resulting in a collection of diverse perspectives. The results of Swisher’s study are presented in narratives and discussions upon which educational leaders can build. An emancipatory education of forcibly-displaced youth must begin with an examination of ourselves, our systems, and our societies and be sustained by leadership, policies, and practices based in love, empathy, listening, learning, and community.A central text for the next steps in inclusive and equitable education, Beyond Refuge appeals to researchers, teachers, leaders, community figures and participants, and policymakers wanting to create lasting and impactful change in their local and national societies.

This timely second edition of Education, Immigration and Migration offers new insights into the ways that educational leaders, policy makers, students, teachers and community members are changing their practice in light of global migration. Including research-based chapters that touch on both local idiosyncrasies and dynamics common across many contexts, chapter authors identify issues educational leaders face as they seek to lead schools and school systems experiencing immigration and better understand their current strategies for improvement. As the relationship between educational leadership and immigration/refugee populations is not fully understood, this updated edition will help readers gain a deeper appreciation of the scope and nature of issues at local, national and transnational levels. In doing so, authors discuss “what is working” and “what is not working,” allowing for a sharing of ideas and approaches across borders. Chapters utilize cross-disciplinary frameworks, global-national data sets, NGO reports, and descriptions of local practices in educational leadership related to the education of immigrants, migrants, refugees and asylum seekers. Documenting these journeys and influences is vital to expanding the conceptual frameworks of educational leadership as a field of study beyond managing schools. In hopes of drawing attention and awakening the field of educational leadership to the influences of [im]migration as a focal point, this volume will be of interest to state and local policymakers, educational schools, and university leaders as well as educational researchers.

In light of a new wave of globalisation, cultural mobility, and criticism of Anglo-American domination, how must educational administrators and leaders respond to the challenges of internationalising their curricula and accommodating diversity? This edited collection offers conceptual frameworks, models, theoretical approaches, and strategies that can inform and guide the development of a genuinely international curriculum. Offering an in-depth look at cases in countries such as Sweden, the US and UK, Turkey, Oman, Cameroon, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Australia, the authors investigate how factors such as institutional culture, faculty recruitment and development, learning styles, accreditation and standards, political orientation, policy, and availability of financial resources may either facilitate or inhibit the internationalisation of the curriculum. The collection also includes broader international issues of diverse humanisms, postcolonial issues, and corruption, fraud and abuse in internationalisation that has occurred that need to be addressed in educational administration and leadership curricula to improve internationalisation. Acknowledging the need for a much broader set of cultural traditions within which educational administrators and leaders are equipped to function, this book provides a critical insight into how they might navigate the challenges of creating a truly international curriculum.

This edited collection centres the reclamation of global counter and Indigenous knowledges, epistemologies, ontologies, axiologies, and cosmovisions that have the capacity to create new educational leadership frameworks that chart courses to visions beyond the current oppressive systems of education. Contributing authors discuss what does it look like to have thriving decolonial educational systems? What is the educational leadership that is needed and required to get us there? What does it look like from these global Indigenous and decolonial perspectives? How do we begin dismantling dominant and colonial systems, structures and styles of leadership?Schooling and education in the wake of ongoing colonial injustices requires a revolutionary (re)awakening and the creation of schooling and educational systems that inherently honour the sacredness of life on this Earth, beyond the anthropocentric. The centring, reclamation and reaffirmation of global counter and Indigenous knowledges in educational leadership is not an individual, nor isolated endeavour. Through this understanding, this anthology is centred around themes of schooling, community building, liberatory praxis and decolonial movements, and Indigenous governance.
