Convicts in the Indian Ocean

CLARE ANDERSON is Lecturer in Economic and Social History at the University of Leicester. She was awarded her PhD from the University of Edinburgh in 1997. Her research interests are on the transportation of South Asian convicts overseas from the late eighteenth to early twentieth centuries and she has published a number of articles and chapters in this field. Dr Anderson is currently researching the construction of criminal identities among the Indian convict diaspora and writing a general history of penal transportation from India to South East Asia.
